I'm building a Mame cabinet that will play numerous emulators. One of the main ones being N64. Its going to be a 4 player panel and I want to be able to play 4 player games like goldeneye. Technically n64 has 9 buttons. I was gonna do 8 per person since playstation uses the second most with 8. Can I get away with that? Should I just have it so I can plug in 64 controllers? How would I add that for four people? This all pretty new to me and I'm trying to plan right the first time. I've seen a lot of examples where people only have 4 buttons for player 3 and 4 and I'm not sure how that would be enough if there playing any of the new emulators. Anyways any help, ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

A 4 player control panel will get extremely buy with 8 or 9 buttons. For proper console play when you have that many buttons use a console controller plugged in via USB.

Pretty much any games past the 16-bit era in consoles don't lend themselves well to hunching over arcade machine (also keeping in mind you have to start accounting for various analog controls). The 4-button max is because the arcade 4-player games never needed more than four (even three if you don't care for Dungeons and Dragons). So yeah, you'd be better off with plug-in controllers or a comfy couch for N64 games.
