Title: Getting games to fit properly
Post by: azathoth on February 11, 2012, 02:44:53 am
Ok, I'll adjust the vertical size and position using the controls on the chassis for a game like ghosts and goblins or wonderboy in monsterland (256 x 224), but then loading a game like donkey kong junior (400 x 256) the vertical size via the chassis controls needs to be decreased to get the the game to fit properly on the screen.

Moving back to wonderboy and the screen looks squashed vertically with wasted space above and below.

I've tried arcade_osd.exe to tweak particular resolutions but nothing seems to affect the vertical screen size.

Is it possible to have both resolutions fill up the entire vertical screen space?

E:\programs\groovymame32>groovymame.exe wbml
SwitchRes v0.013: [wbml] (1) horizontal (256x224@60.10)->(256x224@60.10)->(256x224@60.10)

Thanks
Average speed: 99.98% (26 seconds)

E:\programs\groovymame32>groovymame.exe dkongjnrj
SwitchRes v0.013: [dkongjnrj] (1) vertical (256x224@60.61)->(400x256@60.61)->(400x256@56.88)

When going from 224 to 256 lines you'll have to adjust the vertical amplitude using the chassis controls. That's just how it is. The idea is to get your monitor spec(s) right so that at least the picture will be vertically centred. At least that way you only have to touch one control to get things filling the screen when switching from game to game.

Thanks Paradroid.  :cheers:  So lines are lines and they take up the same vertical space at different resolutions.

Perhaps just cut of that one vertical amplitude control and rewire it to a single pot mounted on the outside of the cab!

That's the conclusion I came to. ;) Check out my blog posting: Patching geometry controls (http://scarthunter.blogspot.com.au/2012/02/patching-geometry-controls-and-tube.html).

Seems other people have also had the same thought (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=117754.msg1249674#msg1249674).

BTW, it works really well. :)
