Title: 9429 games added last year?

Thinking about updating, been a few years, and just read that in the the latest mameinfo.dat

What the heck did they add last year that bumped it up that much?

I don't think there are actually 9K new games that weren't in there before.  I may well be wrong about this, but I think a large number of the drivers were changed between .143 and .144.  The size of complete ROM update set was something like 20GB (way too large for me to bother with).

Interesting. I only play the classics myself so I rarely feel the need to update.

Yeah, I'm in the same boat.  Games that came out after about 1986 really don't interest me.  Only thing that tempts me to try a new version is the HLSL simulated-CRT stuff.

I'm not buying that 2011 number.  Considering that just over 9,000 games were added in all the years of MAME from 1997-2010 combined, it's hard to imagine actually adding 9,429 in only the last year (unless they, like, added one clone for every existing game, and even then the sheer workload that would be required makes it questionable).

Ok I'm seeing a pile of Fruit Machine stuff, I'm guessing that's it?

Are these playable via Mame or?

Yeah, 40 gigs for all of them- a bit cumbersome to handle a full set these days.  I'm upgrading to 145 now and it's twice as much time to to everything - 2 hours to compile, 2 hours to transfer files to the arcade computer over the network - it's a pain.

Its Fruitgames and useless junk.  There are reported errors on some games that functioned before.  I stuck with .143.

40gb?  Yuck.  By the time I finished .139, .140 was available  :laugh:   Looks like I'll be sticking with .139.  Kudos to the team for continuing to add games, I just don't need to have to weed out more mahjonng and fruit machine titles.

In all honesty you should be playing about 100 tops.

Just update if the feature you want is available.

I'm still at .84.
