Well, it's probably not as stupid as Twilight (but are those really movies?). Anyways, I don't remember this event, but apparently it happened, and was a media sensation/circus event and all. Why was it stupid? I'll give you two things:
1. They go to all this trouble to try to bring a hover barge to evac the whales on. But techinical issues make this unfeasible. They end up wunderbaring that they can just dig holes every so far, BY HAND, and the whales can breath to safety. BUT - they also need the Russian ice breaker to come and smash the wall at the edge of the sea!
They could've just brought two machines - a large hauler, and a back-how (or something similar). One full of salt to help melt the ice and keep it melted, the other to easily dig the holes!
2. Now this one's a doozy. Their generator at the scene freezes up. So lead girl there tells her folks who are bringing her another one to 'make sure you keep it running!!'. BUT - the exhaust would kill them. So they have to keep the doors of the chopper open! BUT - they might freeze to death on the way!!
Um, but they won't freeze to death if the doors are closed. So the engine won't seize. And they only have to, ah, start it before they get back out. !!!
At this point, I looked over to my friend and said, "If they really did that, they were *stupid* .
Not to mention, there are all the cliches and 'feel good' moments you expect in something with such a title.
Bottom line. If you or your wife (who demands you go with her) is a bleeding heart, and don't mind being treated as a dummy by Hollywood, make sure you don't stop at the light, and hurry to see this!
Otherwise, avoid it at all costs.

Hahah. I knew it would be just as it was. Not that it was bad. It just wasn't anything new under the sun. I went (after much deliberation) because my friend invited me, she was paying, and I decided to get out of the house.
