Title: Lighting Paradise Arcade LED Lighted Arcade Pushbuttons
Post by: daillest319 on February 06, 2012, 02:18:06 pm
Anyone have any idea how i would light these. i am a noob in this area i purchased 16 buttons. I placed two links below of the buttons and a power supply i purchased but i have no idea what wires i would need and how i would connect them to light the buttons.

Also for the buttons details i purchased the 75 gram cherry microswitch and voltage for all the buttons is 5v.

Regardless if it is an actual arcade or MAME cabinet there should be a 12V power supply present. You don’t need an additional PSU just to light the buttons.
Just connect +12V and GND to the correct connectors at the button LED’s and you’ll be fine 

Danger Will Robinson!

He purchased 5V buttons so connect to 5V and ground NOT 12V.

I'm pretty sure the webpage linked to above stated that the LED's are 12V, but I can't verify that right now since the server seems to be down.
But if it is 5V LED's connecting them to 12V would be a bad idea for sure. So my bad missing that comment.

Quoted from the webpage:
These convex buttons come complete with same color 12V LED's and arcade standard 50 gram microswitches, ready to go out of the box!

So that is what I referred to.
The thing I didn't see, was the dropdown box were you are able to choose a 5V variant.

Anyway, the general answer persists. There should be a power source already (regardless if it is a MAME PC or JAMMA cabinet) with 5V DC. So you shouldn't need a separate PSU just to lit up the LED's.

Also on that page is "Product Options" where you can select either 5V or 12V...
