Title: Alternative to T-moulding??

Are there any good ways to finish off the edge of a 1/2" hardwood ply cabinet without having to do the standard routing and T-moulding?

You could do a thin hardwood banding.  Take about 1/8" of thin hardwood the same type as your plywood and use that to edge the ply?

I think the real reason most people use t-molding is for that authentic look. They sell edging that applies with a hot iron.

I have simply spread drywall putty on the edges and then sand when dry.  I then repeat the step a bunch of times to get a smooth edge.  This method is a lot of work, but you will end up with smooth edges.  I've also just primed the edges and sanded them over and over until I have a smooth edge.

I have used that method with MDF but not plywood.

If you don't have any drastic curves you can trim it off with half round or quarter round. I did this on my Vewlix clone cabinet and am really pleased with the way it turned out.

Are you painting it? If you want to keep the wood look, you can apply iron on glue backed veneer. You can get lots of types to match the outer ply of your board.
