All,
I was wondering if anyone might have any additional suggestions to help me with my problem. No matter what I do, I can't get NBA JAM to store a record. I've searched these forums and Google, to no avail. I would greatly appreciate any information anyone could give.
Steps I have taken (from what I can remember):
1) Created/updated mame.ini to include direct paths to the all of the directories
i.e. cfg C:/Hyperspin/Emulators/Mame/cfg
nvram C:/Hyperspin/Emulators/Mame/nvram etc etc
2) Deleted old cfg and nvram files (just in case they were corrupted somehow)
3) Turned off HyperLaunch in Hyperspin, although I've been testing the record save outside of Hyperspin. i.e. Running mame through commandline without Hyperspin
4) After finishing a complete game, waiting till the game goes into "demo mode" to allow time for data to get saved (suggested by someone on this forum or another).
I do have write access to the nvram folder, because I see the nvram and cfg files being created/updated accordingly. However, my record never seems to get saved.
I have restarted Mame and verified the game didn't store my record, and I have even tried to play back to back games without restarting mame (same session), and the game still said "No Records Found".
I really don't know what I'm missing and would be truly grateful if someone could help me out. I really want this, so my buddies know how often I kick their *%$. lol.
Thanks so much,
JT

Using a fresh install of Mame .144 and playing nbajam (NBA Jam), it saved my game stats both with and without exiting Mame.
I'd suggest trying a new install and not using a FE. See if it works with only Mame and the roms. Don't install it to normal Mame and roms paths. Something totally different. If it works then, add it to your existing paths and see where it stops working.
My first thoughts were if your windows folder(s) were marked read only, FE issues, etc but you covered those already it sounds like.
You didn't say what version of NBA Jam, so if it's different than NBA Jam rev 3.01, let me know the specific one and I'll try it out.

Disable the HyperLaunch option if you have it enabled. This force closes MAME when it's enabled. Force closing MAME keeps settings in the game from saving.

I was originally running it outside of Hyperspin just to get it to work, and was still having issues. I did a new install with completely clean directories and everything and VOILA! Everything is working.

Thanks for the suggestion. I had already disabled the HyperLaunch option, as suggested by someone in the Hyperspin forums (probably from you ;D).
Don't know what it was, but it works now (both inside and out of Hyperspin). That's all that matters. Appreciate the help from both of you.
Thanks so much,
