I am having an issue with my Arcade VGA. I have installed the card and all the drivers (AGP XP32) and have the card running to a Jpac connected to the wiring harness and my K7000 monitor. All parts and connections are known good and tested. I get a stable picture on my K7000 with no vertical roll but there is this video tearing I do not understand. This is a still photo of my problem. The picture is STILL, it is not rolling, this does not appear to be a vertical sync isssue, as the raster is actually completely stable. Can anyone help?

Are the jumpers on the Jpac set correctly for your monitor?
There's a set of 15/24/31 khz jumpers that might be causing your tearing problem.

I haven't used the arcadeVGA in a couple years, but I remember I used to have that issue when I changed to a few certain resolutions in mame. I had to tweak resolutions for certain games and it worked fine. Maybe it is the default resolution you have set that is throwing it out of sync?

Yeah, that usually means it's running at 800x600 or higher. The jumpers may not be right, or you have to start at 800x600 or 640x480, because you should be getting a split screen.

I finally had time to get to play with this and I have had some interesting things happen. First off, when the DVI connection to a VGA is made, the 15K signal does not always load, this is really only an issue in testing and config, as of course there will eventually be no vga monitor at all. The second thing is a bit preplexing. My arcade monitor a WG7000 series 25" made in 2003 I think will only accept 3 of the quickres resolution choices. 256x256, 256x260 and 321x256 that's it. My monitor tears the video just like the above picture at any other resolution choose, even lower. This is odd, since I have run World Class Bowling Deluxe and Shuffleshot on real PCB's with no issues at all and those games are now "too wide" at the one to one pixel configuration. This makes it tough to make choices about vertical games, since I am forced to hardware stretching to get the entire screen to show sometimes. Other games like Reactor and Crystal Castles look prefect though. Thing is, my fav games like Millipede and Shuffleshot are a bit compromised right now. Millipede is either blurry with hardware stretch or "too wide" when one to one pixel ratio and Shuffleshot is a bit too wide but the picture is crystal clear.

Have you tried to remove pin 9 on your VGA cable? Email me at mickelonis @ gmail . com for more information =)

This tearing was happening because the resolution was set too high for my WG7401. For some reason, I could only get 3 resolutions to work properly on the 7401. 256 x 256, 256 x 320 and one other really small rez that was unusable. I run 256 x 320 and this cuts off the sides of Shuffleshot and World Class Bowling Deluxe but they still look awesome at 1 to 1 pixel mapping!

Some games not being the same as PCBs suggests a MAME issue. While the emulation in general may be more correct, some games render less accurately when it comes to native res. If you're using recent/current baseline MAME, try GroovyMAME.
