I added a speaker knob into my last cabinet by hacking up a speaker with the the components integrated into the speaker. It was a royal pain, but it turned out alright.
Is it worth the pain to add a speaker knob into my next cabinet (which will be a bartop)?
Did you add a knob to your bartop?
If so, what kind of speakers did you use, how did you mount your knob, and how easy was it?
If you do not have a knob on your bartop, are you happy with your decision? What have you been doing to adjust your volume?

My cabinet isn't a bartop, but in my case I just went for shifted buttons to control volume up/down (the current Mini-PAC firmware allows volume to be assigned to buttons or shifted buttons). I've got an amp within that cabinet that does have a volume knob, but it isn't accessible from the outside so I just pick a decent central volume level and then adjust up/down from there at the Windows level (via shifted up/down presses on my joystick).

In my bartops I leave the knob on the the amp board or separate amplifier and access it by opening the back of the cabinet. I leave the amp set at a comfortable volume and usually do not have to change it very often. The MP3 player has volume controls on screen and Maximus Arcade has a volume control that you can access with one button.

I am using one of these (http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=023-648)in my current cabinet build. Super easy to install, just wire it between your PC and speaker input.
