Hi all. I've got a neo geo 2-slot that I wanna possibly use as a multigame. But before I do that, I need to get the monitor working.
Here's the workflow I've seen so far.
1. Monitor wouldn't power up at all.
SOLUTION: DMM told me that the iso transformer wasn't outputting power, turned out that the neo geo power supply wasn't working for the 120 out to iso. Replaced fuse on power supply, got that part up and running again.
2. Monitor powers up, hear neck chatter and see neck glow. Doesn't look right at all. I decide to do a cap kit (ordered from bob roberts).
Attached picture is what it looks like with cap kit.
(yes, the board has problems too, but I'm not so worried about that, as I'll be replacing that anyway, I just wanted to see the rom error screen)
3. Checked the HOT on the chassis. I get a reading of something between .500 and .600, so I'm assuming the HOT is good.
Anyone have any ideas on what this could be? I'm a total monitor n00b, and this monitor doesn't have any kind of flowchart to follow.
Some other notations:
- It's hard to keep the Horizonal Hold fixed. I can move the pot, but it doesn't really stay fixed in one place. Same for vertical hold.
- The size is quite large. The backup ram error is a rectangular box centered on the screen (as seen on my test bench). The picture here is huge!
Thanks for any help!
Steven
EDIT: Here's a video of what it looks like: http://youtu.be/doPHGZNWcCw (http://youtu.be/doPHGZNWcCw)

Just a couple of shots in the dark.
I'm not familiar with that monitor, Is it a dual res monitor? maybe the res is set wrong?
Looks like maybe some kinda sync issue, maybe a problem with either vert or horiz osc. ic?

Here's another interesting point.
I don't see any magnet rings at all. Does this tube just not need them? Or is this a lost cause?

It's just a standard 15 khz arcade CRT.
Not sure how to test the vert or horiz ic's.

Yeah I'd say thats a problem. So I assume this monitor has never worked for you.
I read on the klov forum, that you can use a k7000 tube with this chassis but it will take a small pin modification.
Heres the post I read from klov. I guess you can contact Chad from Arcadecup for more info. He is very helpful.

Yeah, I thought it was a problem at first, but then I found this guy's website.
He has this monitor working in a nfl blitze, and it looks the same as mine (no convergence rings). It must do it in some other way.
http://hammax.homeserver.com:8081/blitz/blitz.htm (http://hammax.homeserver.com:8081/blitz/blitz.htm) (the top monitor)
So that's not likely the problem.
Likely I'd have to now either find a working CGM chassis, or buy a universal WeiYa chassis for this tube.
I'd rather get this one working though, if I knew some next step.

Have you tried posting over at the klov forums in the monitor section. There tends to be more monitor repair guys in that forum.

Yeah, I actually brought it over here just to get more coverage. :)
