I would have a lot of suspicion on the timing of this subject... But for now, that just does suck.

While I have greater confidence Canadians will shoot this down than I do Americans, I'm a little surprised the entertainment industry would try it in Canada.

From what I understood the entertainment industry couldn't get a solid foothold there with their draconian "laws". Has the situation grown worse?

With all the rural regions in Canada, one would think torrent use would be limited.  I know about the city access, but on the whole isn't the population spread out more?  I am thinking along the same lines of carrier surcharges, due to inaccessibility.

I would say that the exact opposite is true -- the country is vast, but the vast majority of the population is concentrated in urban areas.

Nobody uses Britannica (http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/media/71476/Population-density-of-Canada) anymore.  I think something like 75% of the population lives within 100 miles of the boarder or something like that.  Probably because of Bears and ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---.

I like Robin Williams' description of Canada...

Canada is like a loft apartment over a really great party. Like: "Keep it down, eh?"

This shouldn't be too surprising, given that the American and Canadian entertainment industries are intrinsically linked. From Music to Movies, to Games, there is a solid cross-pollination of products and production of said products throughout the history of our entertainment culture in both countries. Many Canadian companies have American stockholders, and there are plenty of American owned companies up here as well.
My gut feeling is this is a reactionary play, given the result of the States-side SOPA outcome.

I'd assume Canada will not let Bill C-11 pass, given that Canada has a history of making sound, sane choices when it comes to governing it's citizens (look at our drug laws compared to The States, for cryin' out loud). But with this unpredictable Conservative government, who knows what'll happen. fyi: Conservatives up here are like our Republicans, but less churchy, and perhaps not so wide-side right-wing. But they do love corporations just as much.

Now excuse me, I have to go lay more bear-traps aboot.  <sigh>  :badmood:

Yeah, American corporations have been pushing hard for us to change our copyright laws. We currently enjoy LEGAL sale/use of backup devices (for media we own of course) and they do not like this.
