Title: pac man rom dependent on any other files??
Post by: dave197878 on January 13, 2012, 08:48:38 pm
Basically I have the full .144 set the roms that work.  I only play a handful of games so I moved all the roms i play to a temp folder then moved the roms folder which only has games i don't play out of the mame folder.
Then renamed  temp folder to roms.

So most games work but some don't. I Figured out neogeo games need the bio's rom. I added that and now they work. But what about games like pacman which was working before i moved it??? as far as i can tell it needs nothing else to run but i still get the "selected game is missing one or ......"

Also the simpsons, tmnt don't work...

Pacman needs parent rom Puckman. TMNT variants also have a parent (tmnt).

mamedb is your friend, charts the roms and their relationship to each other.

pacman is a clone of puckman, puckman is the parent rom.  You need to have puckman in your rom folder for pacman to jive.

mamedb isnt always accurate, especially when the roms change. like dig dug. the digdug rom is the parent rom of all the others. it says it has no parent but will not run without 2 of the namco files. it mentions nothing about that. it says those 2 files should be in the digdug zip. mameui is correct and specifically tells you what the name of the namco files it should be coming from. i presume because mameui64 is 144 so it has what the 144 romsets should have in them. all im saying is you cant just assume that if no parent is listed it will work. the zip contents are not accurate.
