Title: making a website for your project

I was just wondering, is there a program or application that i can use to build a webpage other then doing pure HTML code? Any help/suggestions will be greatly appreciated... thanks again :)

Post by: Chris on September 21, 2003, 02:05:16 pm: You may already have one... some versions of Windos and/or IE install Front Page Express. Look to see if you have it on your system. For really basic pages, Microoft Word 97 will create Web pages. So will Word 2000, for that matter, but it's HTML is awful and shot through with MS-specific XML. Anyone know about Word XP?

Post by: DaveMMR on September 21, 2003, 02:22:27 pm: I use Netscape Composer (though I don't use the browser) and fix their little HTML "liberties" with notepad or Webfoot.

Check Download.com -- there are tons are freeware and shareware editors - many of which are WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get).

Dreamweaver is good too but its not newbie friendly :P.

Microsoft Word and Corel Draw will both export html, and have tools for making and managing links. Word might have tools for buttons, forms, and frames too.

Also, go to http://www.tucows.com/ (http://www.tucows.com/), and click on the "Windows" link (that's what you're using right?), and some catagories should pop up... I think they have a whole category for html editors, and they list software by user rating and license type (i.e. 'freeware' vs. adware or shareware)

I just don't have the patience for the regular updates for a project like this (I've only got the site in the interest of documenting the project). I'm using www.blogger.com but there are a whole host of similar sites and scripts that'll do the same thing.

I've never actually used it (I prefer doing all the dirty work with HTML... GUIs just muck it all up trying to guess what you really want to happen)...

But I've played with it a few times & it seems to be pretty cool (& Free!)

Post by: greywolf22 on September 22, 2003, 10:15:50 am: One more thing to check is if your webhosting provider actually provides a "web page creator", I know a majority of the big ISP providers also provide web page space as well as utilities to create "easy" webpages. Personally I prefer straight HTML, or MS frontpage, but for quick posting of pictures and text your ISP may provide something simple to use...just a thought :)
