Hi all,
I came across a great deal over at Newegg.com. They have a set of Logitech 2.1 speakers for $23.99 (no tax and free shipping). (Use $3 off w/ promo code EMCNJJN56 to make it $23.99, ends 1/16) These are perfect for MAME projects. Subwoofer is adjustable for that perfect bass setting in your cabinet. But most importantly, there is a separate controller for the volume and power. In my opinion this is a key feature for MAME projects. You can easily mount the controller on the outside of your cabinet or underneath your control panel. It also has a headphone jack built into the controller for times where the arcade sounds may disturb others.

Enjoy!

Exact speakers I used for the Two-Headed Beast. They work great for what I need them to do. I got mine for free from Office Depot though.

A nice Alternative, also from logitech are the S-220, even cheaper and also sound great in a cab.

Thats what I've got in Vertical Retrace and I'm very satisfied with them. I love the small sub woofer, its fit up top very well.
I also took the volume pod and mounted it on the top back slant part of my cab and its great for easily adjusting the volume while still having the volume out of view.

I actually have both of the Logitech's mentioned, both are good quality for a cab.

Thanks for the heads up. Just ordered 2 sets for my 2 player racing cab. Figured I'd replace the old Atari stereo speakers in the headrests, and put the subs under/inside the seat base. Been really missing some bass in Outrun2 ;D

Hey D,
Thanks for the heads up, these are perfect for a little project I'm thinking about  (partially arcade related)

Just curious, would most people decase these speakers and screw the actual speaker to their wood or do most people leave them in their enclosures?
My current dynamo has speakers already in it and I like the sound of the original arcade speakers.....perhaps I can tap the arcade speakers into the pc speakers and run them both to the sub......4 speakers are better than 2 right??
Thanks,
-
If you've got the space, I'd say there is no need to decase them. Here's what I did, but not many people have this amount of space to work with either...

I definitely have the space since my cab is a dynamo showcase cab. Going to try and wire the existing speakers up to the new ones I think. Think I saw a thread on how to do it somewhere around here.
Thanks

Turning those on their side I think would fit fine in many 'classic' spaces.
-
Both models are cheap and seem worth it, but which are the better sounding speakers? It seems like the S-220s have better reviews and more wattage....so I assume those probably sound better?
Since you have both HaRuMaN, which do/did you like better?
Thanks.
-
I think the ones in the original post sound just a bit better.
-
I'm not sure which of the two sounds better because I've only heard the S-220s. But what I like about the S-220s is that they are very compact and thin and I like the the round volume pod and I think they sound definitely good enough for an arcade cabinet.
-
I bought the LS21. Seemed to take some fiddling and a reboot. That or the adjustment on the sub is wonky.
-
Funny Generic, I went the other route and got the S-220s. Going to combine them with my original arcade speakers (hopefully I don't wire them up wrong and ruin them).
I was shocked at how small these things are......especially the sub. Haven't listened to them yet but I am sure they will be fine.

I think they sound fine for Video Games anyway, especially classic games. I have played some music through mine too and they were ok. I wouldn't use them if I were hosting a rave, but then again I most likely will not be hosting any raves at this point in my life.
