Lucky me - a week after I started searching info on Stella, looking for a way to get a second spinner to work as an atari paddle, a new release comes out that allows assigning specific axis (X or Y) to any paddle (0-3). Now we're playing two player pong (Video Olympics), two player Breakout and more on my arcade setup running Stella 3.5. I forgot these old Atari 2600 games were a lot of fun.
Here's the link to the 3.5 announcement on atariage.com:

Here's the link to a step by step of a pair of home brew "SpinnerMice" mouse hack spinners I whipped up as a set of paddles:

Wow that is VERY cool. Thanks for sharing.
Would these work with Indy 500 (2 players)? I would also kill to be able to play 4 player warlords!

No. The new feature in Stella currently allows assigning each axis only to a paddle - so you get 2 paddles. You cannot assign an axis to a driving control YET (Hopefully the current Dev will keep working on this - read the conversation at the end of the tutorial). In the global settings if you leave "mouse as a controller" set to AUTO, you can use these (or any spinner seen as a mouse by the PC) for one player - just like Stella worked in previous versions.

with 4 of these (or any CP with 4 working spinners) you could play 4 player Warlords in Mame since it supports multiple mice.
