Title: return windows shell
Post by: Fry on January 07, 2012, 09:38:12 am
Hi guys,

I'm experimenting with hiding windows, not showing with startup etc. This works pretty well now. I use Instantsheller to start up HyperSpin as shell. Upon exiting HS I want to automatically return to my windows shell incl. desktop. How do I fix this? I can run a .exe on exit, but if I run explorer.exe I just get back one screen. I need to somehow to really set it as shell. Any thoughts?

Fry.

Since you're not using it exclusively as an arcade machine, I suggest not shelling it, and simply starting it when you want. Make sure it's set to fullscreen.

I do this all the time with Mala. That way, I don't even have to exit Mala if I want to do something computer-related. I press the Windows button, and can select stuff from the Start Menu or the Task Bar. And my 'arcade ambience' continues in the background.

Hi Gray_Area, thank you for your reply. Actually I do want to use it exclusively as an acade machine. I want to hide my pc as much as possible, it must look and feel like an arcade. So I definately don't want to show Windows. My ideal situation is that when I plug in the power, everything starts up automatically and the user ends up in his game selection screen without ever seeing anything PC related.

There are a number of things you can do to hide Windows.  Google the following:

 - How to disable Windows splash screen
 - How to remove the recycle bin from windows desktop
 - How to remove windows welcome screen
 - How to auto login windows (I think it is "control userpasswords2)

Along with that, I set my taskbar to autohide, my front end to load at startup, and desktop background to black.

When I turn on my cabinet, you never see anything Windows related. Haven't figured out an easy solution to eliminate the Windows Shutdown screen.
