Title: RomLister
Post by: Ridgefire on December 31, 2011, 04:27:42 pm
I'm sure this is a totally newbie question. But here it goes...please don't laugh too much at me.

The catagories allowed section. Please clue me in on what "ball and paddle, breakout, bios..ect ect". The only ones I'm sure on are fighter and sports  Would hate to exclude a game I might like because I didnt know what a catagorie meant. I used to play games by walking around the arcade and if something caught my eye I would try it.

The only suggestion I have is that you specifically create a list containing only those particular categories and see what games come up and try them.  The categories come from catver.ini, and I'm not responsible for their content.
You could perhaps google around on catver.ini and check to see if there are descriptions of what each mean, or simply ignore 'em altogether.

Usually, the categories are used to remove particular types from ending up in your final list- like getting rid of mature titles, or mahjong games are the two most common exclusions.

BIOS is the only one that is not actually a game type.  BIOS is a support ROM, for running the game, not a game itself.  I would not suggest creating a list of just BIOSes and playing them-it won't be too fun. ;)

Game categories are pretty much self-explanitory.  They refer to the genre of game.

Ball & Paddle Games are games that involve... wait for it.... a ball and paddle.  Pong would be a good example.

Breakout Games are games that are rip-offs of the game breakout.  If you don't know what beakout is then hang up your joysticks as you aren't a gamer.  ;)

I can't think of a single cat that you can't figure out by the title, or at least get the general idea.

Thanks NOP, makes sense now. I went through my catver and got the idea. I knew it was something simple like that, amazing how the answer can be right in front of your face but still overlook it.
