Title: Best Emulator using a Frontend
Post by: Hildy_42 on December 15, 2011, 11:07:20 am
I finally got my basement finished, after two years of working on it.  I will post some pictures once I get home this evening.  My question is I would like to setup a computer using AtomicFE as the frontend and using different emulators so that I can play NES games, Super NES games and also Sega games.  I was able to get the NES games to work great with AtomicFE but I am having trouble finding emulators for Super NES and Sega that have the ability to exit out easily.  For example I am using FCEUltra for my NES emulator and I am able to use the esc key to exit out and go back to AtomicFE to select another game.  Any suggestions on what would be the best emulator to use for Super NES and Sega that would have the ability to exit out with a key stroke?  I tried Fusion because it seemed like the best emulator for Sega but can't seem to figure out how to make it exit once I have loaded a game from AtomicFE so that I can go back to the menu to select another game.  I am not married to AtomicFE either so if there is a different frontend that someone would suggest I am all for that as well.  Thanks for any help and I will post some pictures of my newly finished basement a little later.

Go to the second hand store and snag yourself a Xbox, soft mod it, bang in a bigger drive and bung CoinOPS 3 on it.

Then use your PC for more productive pursuits like Word and Excel.

Seriously it rocks and its cabinet ready.  :applaud:

I would check to see if you could set your exit key to ESC in those emulators. I would also check out the atomic fe forums, they probably already have answers to your questions. I'm not sure if they have an english forum, but I did find the french forum... maybe switching to an english mostly frontend?

Hyperspin, Game-ex, and MaLa come to mind. Gam-ex and Mala take less tiem to setup, but hyperspin has a lot of eye candy.

but yeah, try seeing if the emulators you are using have a setting to change the exit key to ESC

I'm runnig MaLa with Fusion no problems, just set q as the hotkey for closing all my emulators.  so far no troubles expect with zSNES and it lets you set your own hotkey withine zSNES config anyways.
