Title: First time Mala Setup - Joystick issues

I previously was running mame32, but updated my system so i got the newest version of mame and mala for my frontend but setup with my xarcade tankstick is proving more difficult.  my joystick works while in the menu to move and select a game, but once a game starts it doesn't work.

Games that require you move left and then right to say OK won't work...when i get in a game, no movement.  I installed the latest version of controls.ini i could find - it didn't have the exact 1.44 version number my mame did..not sure if that is the problem or whether some manual configuration is required.  I check on joystick in my controller settings and that didn't help either.

Can someone smarter than me share their experience with getting controls working?

Have you set up your controls in MAME on the <TAB> menu?
