Title: 1981 scramble cab meets xbox. -WIP
Post by: Dalkarl on December 10, 2011, 01:26:39 am
This is a WIP, I Bought an old cabinet for about 40usd, and an old tvset for 6usd.
 8-)

I live in Sweden, but the cab might be made in italy, the manufacturer is unknown though.

Nothing in the cab was working and the pcb was missing. I will be using an xbox, but im building it so that i can replace it with a pc later on if i want to.

Actually I will keep the exterior as is for now  i will clean it up as a first step. If i get the chance later on i might respray the cabinet and recreate the sideart.

Im waiting for Dual Strikes from arcadeforge.de,  a padhack would be a problem later on if i wish to use a pc.

And dont worry, i wont paint the coindoor. Im hoping to fit the monitor later today, it will mounted just behind the plexi and not like the previous monitor.

XBOX controllers can be seen as a USB controller

Wow, a Zaccaria Scramble! I'd kill to get any Z cab in the U.S., they are so cool looking IMHO. Restore the side artwork, maybe? Be a shame to lose to the ages....

Since you didn't route away any wood for the sticks, you might need these: http://www.arcadeshop.de/Sanwa-Joysticks-Shaft-Extender-JLF-TP_854.html (http://www.arcadeshop.de/Sanwa-Joysticks-Shaft-Extender-JLF-TP_854.html)

Just make a promise to yourself to fix it later, I know from experience that "proper fixes" might take a backseat when the gaming itself is more fun.  ;D

Yeah, and the short stick feel fine.. I might fix it later ::)
The mdf is only 13mm thick.

P1 is working now, great fun! P2 will work as soon as i create another usb adapter.

I replaced the worn brownplexi with tinted 6mm glass (dark grey). Also created a black bezel with a vinyl cutter, rounded the edges surrounding the monitor. Combined with the tinted glass it looks factory made, however a bit more modern of course.

Will probably add "player 1, player 2" above the controls.
