Title: Does MAME support Asteroids cocktail mode in any form?

I assumed it would as the original has a cocktail cabinet, cant seem to find the dipswitch setting for it in any of the versions I have here

Under video settings in the tab menu you can choose cocktail.

True, but that presents a dual screen - this mode is for games that don't natively support cocktail mode isn't it?

I know it is just a work around but I get the gut feeling that the emulation is true and maybe there was a hardware (read not dip) change to make the board run in cocktail mode.  In that case there would not be a way to change to the cocktail mode via software in the emulation.  You will probably need someone more familiar with a true asteroids board to find out if this is true.  Just a guess since cocktail mode has been a problem for asteroids in MAME forever.

Here is a tread that seems to confirm that Ground a pin (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=26354.0)
