Title: A Question for you pros - 33" Pentranic Arcade Monitors - Buy or Not Buy?
Post by: Turambar on December 08, 2011, 09:27:47 am
This guy is selling this arcade monitor for $150.  I am trying to find a spec sheet on it.  Does anyone know if this would work with an arcadevga or soft15khz?  He wants 150 for it used, but it also throwing in some replacement tubes/parts as well.  I am trying to hunt down a spec sheet on this... specifically need to find dimensions to know if it will fit my cab.

TL;DR

Will a 33" Pentranic Arcade Monitors make a good Mame monitor without much hassle, and is it a good monitor (are there known problems/issues?)

Don't know how long he will have this, so speedy responses would be great.

More info from the post:

A while back I was going to use these in some showcase-style MAME
cabinets - the VGA connectors make it so easy...They were all pulls from
what were, at the time, high end multi-monitor racing simulators.

They are custom Pentranic chassis, 33" tubes, with VGA ports and regular
PC cord power inputs.  (1) is 120V, and the other (2) are 240V.  No burn
in on any of the tubes - they all look great.

I don't have any way to currently test the 240s, but maybe you can look
at the 120V and see how they got it going on 120 instead of 240.  That
was my plan before I eventually concluded that I will never complete
these projects.  Obviously, if you're a monitor n00b, this probably
isn't for you.    :)

$300 OBO for everything...

The 120V monitor (working) can be seen along with pics of the whole lot
here.  I have the 120V connected to a Dell mini, and I did no tweaking
to get the image perfect - just wanted to show it up and running...

Pick up in Georgetown, TX - About 20 minutes north of Austin, TX.

Please reply via E-MAIL.  I do not monitor the group frequently.

Best regards,
Scott...

Is "good ol' Scott" someone to be wary of?

PBJ, I don't know about whether or not I want to deal with a tube that size, but I am coming to the end of my project and funds are limited.  $150 for an arcade monitor has peaked my interest.  My biggest concern is whether or not it will fit in my cabinet.  I have about 26 inches of width for clearance.  I know this is a 33, but that is on the diagonal.  I really need to know if it will fit, but apparently the company that makes these is long since dead.

If it won't fit, which flat screens do you buy to put in yours?  Where do you get them?

Thanks for all of your help on this guys.  All of you were correct in that the tube is too big for my current project.  I emailed Scott and told him I would not be able to get them to work.  Yesterday I got home and found an email from him.  With all of the current work going on, he told me he would just give them to me to be free of the space.  I got 3 33'' pentranic arcade monitors and an extra tube free from Scott.  I wanted to give him a shout out on here.  Not only did he give them for free and help me load them, he let me come in and view his personal arcade which consisted of about 15 machines and other memorabilia.

Scott runs http://www.thekillerinstinctproject.com/ (http://www.thekillerinstinctproject.com/) and http://revisionx.com/ (http://revisionx.com/).  He sells some arcade parts.  I haven't purchased anything from him, but I did find him to be a standup guy.

Timing is everything.  I bought two Dynamo Showcase Cabs when you originally posted.  I assumed I could repair the broken one but couldn't.
If by chance you ever re-check this post, I am interested in taking one or more of those off of your hands.

Thanks
