I need help, please. My MAME cabinet has an Ipac wired to the buttons and it all generally works fine. But I have two problems:
1) One button only activates when it is released. When it's pressed, nothing happens. But when I release it, it sends the signal. Fortunately, it's the "1 player start" button so it doesn't really hurt anything, but it bugs me. I've confirmed it's not the microswitch that's causing it. Is this a setting somewhere that's gotten messed up? Where are some places I should look for solutions?
2) On a mildly more annoying scale...the Player 2 fire button "bleeds" onto other buttons around it. If I'm rapid-firing, I'd say it triggers another button maybe 1 out of 30 hits. Usually not a problem, but it sometimes triggers the pause button, which can be annoying. Any thoughts what might be causing this? Any solutions?
Many thanks to all!
(To be really fair, thanks to everybody over the years because I've been mostly silently lurking but relying on all the fabulous information that's kept on this site.)

1) That's your shift button. If you don't like it, you'll need to change it.

1) Thanks, but I don't think so. Maybe I'm not saying it right... When I run keytester, if I push buttons, the mapped keys light up on the screen. Except this one. Only when I RELEASE the button, does it's corresponding key light up. Even as the shift button, that would be useless. Holding down the button makes no difference, the key only registers as pushed when it's released.
Make sense? Am I missing something or misunderstanding you?

That's what the shift button does. It won't register as P1 Start until it is released. If you hold it down and press P1 Button1 for example, P1 Button1 will be registered as a completely different input.

Ok, I understand, thanks. I discovered this "anomaly" while trying to find the solution to issue #2. So based on your description, I would assume they're probably unrelated, huh?

The first steps are definitely:
1) check your wiring , sometimes a simple mistake can be overlooked. check it again.
2) check your button settings in the config software
