I noticed these "convertors" on ebay and wonder if they work? I just want to make sure windows xp sees this when plugged in through the adapter.

Iffy. I know the other way is easy to convert to! (Usb to PS2) Not sure if these work, but XXX to USB adapters are generally looked down upon, sue to issues.

Some converters are better than others.
The Belkin linked here is a good bet: http://geekhack.org/showwiki.php?title=Geekhack+WorldWide+Shopping+Links#PS+2+to+USB+Adapters (http://geekhack.org/showwiki.php?title=Geekhack+WorldWide+Shopping+Links#PS+2+to+USB+Adapters)

Almost no, everytime.
If anything, get an add-in PCI card for the computer so you can plug the hardware directly. Something like this:

I hadn't hooked up my trackball yet, but I ended up getting one of those adapters in my initial link.
I hooked up a PS/2 mouse to my windows 7 computer with it and it picked it up and started working. I haven't tried it with my xp computer (actual pc running arcade software) or my trackball mouse yet

Edit: I meant DUE to issues, not sue to issues.
