Title: Typical price for a glass top for a cocktail?
Post by: ahofle on December 02, 2011, 11:04:41 am
What's a normal price for getting a glass top cut for a cocktail cab?  I was quoted a little over a hundred bucks by a local glass shop which seems a little steep from what I've heard on here.  Any good recommendations to get something like this?

I'm in the Dallas ft worth area. Had a 3" circular piece of 1/4" glass cut and beveled for a top for an endtable and it was about 30$ as I recall.

But it was pretty thin. I'd imagine your looking for something a little thicker for a tabletop like that.

100$ seems  alittle high unless its 1/2 glass or you've got to cut odd shapes out of the ends (as some cocktails have those cutouts?)

I want to say that I paid $80 for glass to fit a midway cocktail. Not tempered, rounded edge and 1/4" thick. I just bought 1/4" piece of glass for my MKII that was not tempered, or rounded and 1/4" thick and it was $35.

I have a tekken tag tournament that is a MK2 conversion the glass has some pretty bad scratches and scuffs. what size glass did you get?

It really depends on the edge finish you ask for. If you have the shop polish the edges or get a curve edge polish, it can cost as much as you say.

Now if you just get the oval piece cut with the "Seamed" edge, then it can cost as little as $35 for 1/4" (depends on your size). Of course a "seamed" edge is just the sharp edge when cut (sometimes they will lightly sand the edges a bit to make sure you don't cut yourself). If you are handy and don't mind the extra labor, you could sand the edges down to almost a polish with several grids of sand paper and a buffer. It works just fine but won't look as perfect as the glass shop.

I bought this one for my Pac. The shipping was reasonable too.

Now that's a good deal!  Do you happen to know the radius of the corners?  I'm looking for 22"x32" with 4" radius corners.

I did a craigslist posting for my cocktail. I said i'd fix your computer, you make me the glass. The guy said he normally would charge $40 or so for the glass. Try craigslist. There are a lot of retired glass makers who will sell you the glass already cut to fit for pretty cheap.

The key is that you do a wanted posting and do one in multiple categories, not just in items wanted. You will save big time because you don't pay for shipping.

It is the same size as the original pacman glass. I can't get out there to measure it for a while (carpets are getting shampooed, so I am trapped in my office for a bit). I think the corners are a little more rounded than the original, but very close. I am going to install the new glass (finally) later today or tomorrow, so I will try to take a pic to show the difference, but it probably isn't going to be really noticeable in the pic. It is really close to the original.
