Title: Woo hoo! My first cap replacement!

So I helped a kid edit a college paper, and in gratitude he gave me an old PC and an LG 19in 4:3 monitor. Both were non-working. The PC just needed a HD reformat, but the LCD wouldn't power up. I did some research and found that this monitor had some cap issues. I decided to open it up, and sure enough, one cap was bulging. I went to Fry's Electronics, bought a replacement cap, did my first ever de-solder job on a board, replaced the cap, soldered, and voila! A nice working 19in LCD. Total cost: $2.  :laugh:

Amen, brother! It makes you wonder about all that stuff you threw out over the years that didn't work, when it's clear some of it could have been fixed for a minimal cost.

Exactly.
About a year ago I had a 32" LCD TV go all screwy. The picture was all weird looking like how a pc monitor looks when its set for too low of colors. I was to the point that I was just thinking about tossing it and getting a new one because it was a free TV I had won and I had it for 2 years. I finally figured let's open it up and see. I reseated all of small plugs and then it worked great.
