Title: problem with windows..anyone else encounter this?
Post by: newwavexhomicide on September 17, 2003, 04:17:50 am
This is not really mame related but it relates to downloading roms...

for some reason my computer has set itself to download automatically to my temporary folder.

Usually when you click something and it starts downlooading it will give you options: "save, open, or save as" or something like that...

well those options do not come up anymore. It automatically saves things to my temporary folder and it is terribly annoying to have to move all my roms from temp folder to roms folder.

This happened on my girlfriends computer too and I cant figure out how to fix it.

Happen to anyone else? Anyone have a solution?

I looked all through the windows settings and help and cannot find anything.

thanks guys

Which browser?  (Guessing IE).

I think there is a setting when it asks where to save it for "Always save this type of file to this directory" and you had it checked, so now all you .zip files go to /Temp.

But I don't know how to get the window back.

Well first of all this is the wrong place to be asking questions like that.  You need to go find some page that talks about the windows registry and will probably find what you need.

[Start] -> [Run] -> [Regedit]

Registry Key:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer

Look in the right hand pane for a value name [Download Directory] then double-click value name and change the directory path to your desktop.

Example : C:\Documents and Settings\[Your Logon Name Goes Here]\Desktop

*just click the "Start" button to view logon name ... its right above "Turn Off Computer..."

Here's an example screenshot to help you ...

Simple uh  ;)

if you don't see that entry ... and you should ... then ...

Create the Value Name [Download Directory] according to the Value Data listed below.

Data Type: REG_SZ [String Value] // Value Name: Download Directory

Value Data: [Enter Path to Directory to be Assigned as Defualt for Downloads]

Exit Registry and Reboot

Just use a better browser. there are plenty out there.  And if you do you'll help relieve the head ache that web designerd like myself have to go through with IE.

You know, there is a BYOAC "software forum", linked to at the top of the page, that's meant for that stuff...  you're shorting yourself on help by asking in the forum that's mostly for building.  (plus giving yourself an abundance of people telling you you're in the wrong place)
