Title: Few questions before I start building...
Post by: redbeard30 on November 20, 2011, 05:35:50 am
So i started looking into a mame cab after finishing my virtual pin cab, and have a few questions. Also looking for others input/thoughts on my ideas! Here is what i'm planning... i was going to do a cab/27" tv with component hook
ups, a cab like UA2. But realized it wont fit thru my basement door if i move! Plus cost is an issue, so i thought of doing a pedastal style cab. I thought of hanging a flat screen on the wall, then had another idea. Ive been playing mame on my wii thats hooked to a 46" rptv. It looks good, and is nice and big (4:3 ratio is aound 34" diagional I think). Then i thought if i raise the tv via a platform and put a cp in front it would be like the old arcade games that used the 50" screens! I thought buying the mameroom quad kit and pedastal kit. Mainly to save time, but would still do the actual controls myself. Also it would run hyperspin, emulators up to psx, dreamcast. Pc would be a dual core 2.6ghz, 3 gb ram, ati x1800xl 256 mb card, xp. Any thoughts on my ideas/ recommendations you might have? Thanks!

Redbeard,

I am also doing a similar build to yours.  I am still throwing around ideas on how I want my setup to look.  I will have the MAME setup along with the emulators like you have stated.

I looked at mameroom setups as well and think I will go with at the very least their quad CP panel but will wire my own controls.  I am hooking mine up to a 32" LED tv and do not know if I will hang it on the wall (save lots of money)  or make a cab of some kind.  I like the look of their showcase setup but think it could be done by myself/friends for less than what they charge.  It does look nice though.  I have also though about visiting the local arcade or finding a decent sized original cab and seeing if I can convert that to hold my tv.  Would probably just have to rebuild the front and back for the width adjustment or something along those lines.

I am interested to see what you decide to go with and it may help me as well.  Good luck with the build and throw out an update if you decide what to do.
