Cave games were removed in 144, have to use 143u9 for your cave fix.

You should be able to compile from source whichever version of MAME you want. The GroovyMAME site has some information on the order in which the various patches should be applied as well:

 - http://mame.groovy.org/0143/ (http://mame.groovy.org/0143/)

I haven't attempted this but it should be possible - I believe the Gentoo distribution on the LiveCD is a fully working install so any compilation utilities could be installed. Sorry I can't offer any specific help.

Is there likely to be a Windows version with Wiimote support??
