Title: jamma cab with pc monitor?
Post by: davellaman on September 16, 2003, 07:03:50 pm
Is it possible to use jamma with a pc monitor?  If so, anyone have details on how this is done.

Thanks,

Mark

you would need a scan converter to convert the 15khz from the arcade board to 31khz that the pc monitor needs. ;)

anyone have any recommendations on which scan converters to get?

Also, what would be easier, a tv, or a pc monitor for the jamma cab.  I dont want to spend all the money on the real arcade monitor.

p.s.  Ill be using a 25" tv/pc monitor if that makes any difference

Thanks,

Mark

well, if you do a tv you would need a rgb composite sync to composite video converter :-\ and i don't think that they sell 25" pc monitors
??? you should be able to find a scan converter on ebay but after you get a scan converter and a (if you can find one) 25" monitor you will prbobly have already spent more money than on an arcade monitor :'(

i meant to say 20" monitor.   But the 25" arcade monitors i was looking at were like $350.00 but I am seeing a lot of really cheap refurbished monitors on ebay.

unless you know where I can get some cheap 20" arcade monitors.

Using anything OTHER than a real arcade monitor in a JAMMA cabinet would cost more.

20" is not a standard arcade monitor size, unless you are in Australia (only US game I can think of that had that size was Turbo (upright, and cockpit only).

19" is THE standard arcade monitor size, and they are pretty cheap used. Look for one of those, and don't pay more than $50 - $100 (remember, you can often buy a complete working Jamma cabinet with monitor for $100).

ok, my last question is...If a game I am buying was originally made for 25"  would it be ok to use a 19".  WHat will the permformance differences be?

THe game is ulitimate Mk3.

Is this one worth getting for my cab?

Games are not made for specific size monitors. The majority of Mortal Kombat series games I have seen have had 19" monitors.

That monitor looks fine, but by the time you pay shipping you are in for quite a lot. Have you tried the rec.games.video.arcade.collecting newsgroup to see if you can buy a local monitor or complete cabinet at that price?
