This week's QuarterZone Shots comic...

I had my doubts when you started posting here about your blog (how many times do we see these things come and go), but I am finding it rather entertaining and visit once or twice a week.
Keep it coming!

Thanks, just glad to share the fun.

Hate to be that guy, but I haven't found a single one of your comics funny or clever.

Yes. Keep 'em coming! :)

You clearly don't hate to be "that guy" enough to not be that guy.
-
+1 up above.

They are entertaining, but don't need to be funny or clever.
My only request is that you don't make a reader link to your site to simply view a photo. Post the photo here and also tell us where it resides. I get that you want the traffic, but I find it a bit uncool.
BTW, I think the Space Invaders was clever...but some movement would bring it home.
Q*Bert, I just don't get...
-
Again, my only goal in posting here about my blog was to share the fun that arcade stuff has given me over the years (there's no revenue, ads, or incentive for me to get traffic to my site). Since it seems to bug you guys, and I'm a relative newbie to this forum, I'm happy to acquiesce - won't post here about the comics again. Didn't mean to go out of bounds.
-
My 2 cents:
1. Love the site, love the game of the day stuff- far too little editorial content on classic arcade games on the web.
2. Maybe just make an ongoing post and bump it when you've published something you're particularly proud of.
3. I think you should keep going with the comics. Is it Penny Arcade yet? No. But neither were they when they first started out.
-
Well said(points up)
Thumbs up to the games of the day, I know the games I used to play but finding gems outside of those can be tricky. Needle in a haystack.
Am I missing something on the Q-bert btw? Or just random oddness?

Keep the comics coming, and in my opinion feel free to keep posting them. :) They put a smile on my face. As someone who used to draw comics as a hobby, I know it is seriously tough to translate your humor down on paper. :applaud: :applaud:
My only critique is that I think you could add more dimension to the comic set-up if you added some dialog to the characters. For example, the one with Dig dug unsuspectingly about to dig into the raptor's nest. You could have dig dug talking all casually to show he really doesn't see it coming at all. Maybe something like "Doot de doo do doo! Working in a coal mine, going down down down... Today I'm gonna strike big, I just know it!"
Nonetheless, I am looking forward to the next comic.

You can't please everyone, don't let it get to you. Some folks are getting enjoyment out of what your doing, if you're still happy doing it please keep posting it :)

Hey pinzach,
Yeah ... I'll admit it, at first, I too was a little skeptical of your intentions with the forum posts drawing hits to your blog, but I get it: the content is harmless and meant in the spirit of fun (that Dig Dug comic is a hair's breadth away from brilliance.)
I say keep doing what you're doing, and if you want to post it here, I think that's fine too. People that don't like it don't have to click it.
(aaaaaand I see I've been ninja'd by saint himself. Yeah. What he said.)

I enjoy the blog. Always great to get ideas for new games to try.
-
Thanks for all the kind thoughts...
And as far as the Q*bert comic goes, nothing you are missing, just saw an old west photo one day and got the idea to create the same with some vid character in it. It was fun finding a cowboy hat for him....
-
Definitely keep at it! Don't let the negative comments get you down because no one is forced to read.
I used to write holiday-related funnies and post them to Facebook every day. I had days where the gags weren't so funny and other days where the creativity really flowed. The key is to challenge yourself to come up with good material on a regular basis, which I'm sure you can do!
I personally love this classic arcade-related comic:

If you ever decide to make a Trog related comic (My fav arcade game), I will definitely frame a copy and hang it in my game room! ;)
Of course, if you made a Trog comic, you would probably have quite a few people going "What the heck is a Trog?" :lol

Keep doing what you are doing. I am enjoying the Game of the Day feature. Thanks

So, Trog was one of the first animators on "The Simpsons," huh?
I know the show is ancient but that's just crazy!
-
:lol Haha! Awesome comic, Dude! The funny thing is that I was watching the Simpsons while reading this. I never caught the Simpsons look alike situation going on before.
I'll be hanging that one up! Thanks for making the custom comic!!! :)

I’ve popped in to read the blog several times now and I really enjoy it. Most of the featured games I’ve not heard of, and I’ve actually tried a few of them and enjoyed them (Colony 7 FTW).
A few months ago I was actually considering starting a blog with the exact same general concept (showcasing lesser known titles from the MAME back catalogue) but I decided against it because I know I’d never keep up with it.
Now the constructive criticism: you obviously have a handle on English, so I think you’d do well to avoid lazy “internetisms” in your writing. For example, I was reading one article where you said something like “such and such makes this a completely diff game” which I assumed was supposed to mean “different”. Why go through all the trouble of finding the games, taking the screen shots, composing and editing your articles, etc. only to skimp on spelling full words? I’ll be the first to admit I’m one of those people with a very bad twitch reflex for such things; most people probably wouldn’t notice or care. Still, I thought I’d mention it because for some people that sort of thing can make or break the enjoyment of reading your work, and it’ll only cost you a few extra keystrokes here and there to eliminate the problem.

pinzach, ignore the naysayers, keep up the good work.
I was thinking a while ago that it'd be cool if front-ends could have internet enabled game lists, and could take a feed from something like the "game of the day" - and track if you've played or not, etc. I can think of pile of such lists that'd I'd like, but ...
-
hey the tron one made me chuckle!
-
Thanks for all the encouragement. GOTD is fun to choose... I do a new comic for each Tuesday. It's already up on the blog, but if you don't want to go there, I'll chop down the jpg and post it here soon...
-
The comics are hit-and-miss (mostly miss, sorry) but I love your write-ups on the overlooked games of yesteryear. Keep that up!
-
Won't post here anymore about the comics. This'll be the last. That way if you don't like them, they're gone & if you do like them, you can always find new ones on my MAMEblog...

I'd actually like to give away some new or slightly used arcade stuff. So I thought it'd be fun to have a visual quiz to do so. However, I have no idea how easy or hard they will be until I try a couple. So, if you'd like to see how ardent of an arcade fan you are, you can check the new quiz out on my site and try to be the first to comment with the correct answer...Because traffic goes to my site from many sources, the comment block below the quiz is the only way to monitor/unify the answers. Maybe it's easy and already answered, maybe no one will get it.
-
My comment is "waiting for apporval".

Yes, the blog is set-up so all the comments need to be approved, but I publish them all "as is". I'm just waiting to publish the comments on the quiz so lots of folks can take a crack at it before revealing the answer.
However, your answer is indeed correct (and first)! I'd appreciate you not revealing the answer here until I publish the comments tomorrow.
