Title: Help needed on building an Adaptator
Post by: BlackFlag on September 16, 2003, 06:14:22 am
Hi All,

I'm a big car racing fan so i play on several platforms.
My problem is that i can't buy a steering wheel for each platform and i don't feel like changing the wheel each time i swap from Dreamcast to PS2 or XBOX.
So, I'd like to build an adaptator for steering wheel + pedals that can works on DC, PS2 and XBOX based on whatever you want (I think starting from a PS2 force feedback steering wheel would be better) that can handle Rumble (some already do that ) but also force feedback and memory card.
I already own the PS/2 to DC and i'm about to buy the one for PS/2 to XBOX but on the first one the memory card slot is missing and on the second the force feedback action is not supported !

I was also planning to try to start from an HAPP Controls Active wheel but the working method for the torque motor is too hard to interface so i'm selling it (bought used but never used by me).

Please anyone help me if you feel how to handle this project.

Thank's all,
Have fun.

Jeff

Change that part of your profile that reads 'Daytonaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa' as it screws the screen orientation all up.

* whew * much.

As for your question, I'm not sure how you would make such a beast.  Likely you will need a slight knowledge of electronics, and find the pinouts to all those consoles.

Yeah that's the main problem  >:( , and i would need to find the controller chip for each console i'd like to use too. Logitech is about to produce a brand new wheel that really sounds fantastic but on PS2 and PC only , so no plan for the XBOX once again Damn thing.
Search for the Logitech Driving Force Pro over the net if interested.

I think these adapters have been recommended before:  http://www.lik-sang.com/comparison_select.php?item_grp_id=2

But someone like Snaaake or Armad1llo could answer this better than I can.

Hey Tiger !
Well i've already done that compare but found non that handle feedback and anyway none that work with all console at the same time. I'd like one to plug all my console controllers input at the same time on one side and a steering wheel on the other side and just play without plugging/plugging each time (if possible).

Thanks anyway ;-)

They make wheels that work on the PS2 and the xbox. I don't think you'll find one though that can also do the DC.
