I want to buy it so bad... but I am so broke right now...
-
I have yet to buy oblivion for the 360. Cannot find it cheaper than £10 new.
I have it for the PC but I fall asleep every time I try playing it. PC games do not work for me.
There again I tend to fall asleep through crap movies too so it must be relative. ;D
-
I'm still trying to decide whether I want to buy Battlefield 3 or CoD:MW3. I haven't played either franchise previously. And then I need to decide whether I want that on the Xbox or the PC.
-
It's on santas list.

Just bought BF3 for the Xbox. It is really good. MW3 is built on the same engine as BF3, but I guess it is more clan friendly. I know which one I would buy..... MW3. ;)

Pre-ordered it from Amazon for my son. Didn't ship until tonight and we are sweating it. If it does not show up tomorrow I go from hero to heel quickly.

I beefed up my media/gaming PC with a GTX570 just to be sure (: It pre-loaded on Steam Wednesday night, and should unlock here in about 30 minutes or so. But I'll wait to fire it up until I wake up in the morning just to make sure everything's running fine when I finally get a chance to play it some time this weekend.

I started it up this morning just to make sure there were no nasty surprises when I get ready to play this evening. Setting all the options to their highest setting, running on my 42" 1080p, and the opening scene (sitting in a caravan of horse drawn carts, riding through a snowy forest) felt very snappy and responsive as I looked around the scenery rolling by. That 570 is a beast of a card. I can't even imagine these people running 2 or four of the even higher end cards in SLI.

See, this comment is exactly why I quit buying 3D cards. $300+ spent on a component and he's still carefully adjusting settings and praying he doesn't have frame skips. Meanwhile, I can slap the same game into my $100 Xbox 360 that boots and is playing the game in 10 seconds, lay ---my bottom--- on the couch, and it looks identical and actually has a better control interface according to the reviews.
if by "carefully adjusting" you mean recklessly cranking everything to the max to see what happens?
-

LOL. That's exactly what I do.
And PBJ I agree. Playing on a 360 or PS3 looks pretty much the same as a PC these days. You get less lag on PCs, but most of the time the slight lag from these games don't bother me or take away from the game at all. My brother in-law told me back when Dragon Age came out that he would rather get it for the PC because the PC has higher resolutions than the 360. I asked "Aren't you playing your 360 on an HDTV at 1080p?"....I mean isn't that the highest a PC will do too? Or has something changed? I haven't played PC games in a few years.
-
It's more about the display than the PC now. Monitor maker's seem to think that 1080p is high enough.
A shame displays like this cost so much:

(34.6" display, 4096×2160 resolution, $37k)

weren't like all lcds pc monitors from about 5 or so years ago capable of higher than 1080p or is my memory playing up.

Once we went widescreen, the vertical resolution seemed to disappear. I've got a 19" 1280x1024 that was pretty common place just a few years ago.
Looks like if you want anything higher than 1080, be prepared to spend at least $300:

I picked up a PC version and have played for about 2 hours. My PC has what I guess is an older video card, a Radeon 4850 that's lasted well (for me) for a few years now. I'm playing at high resolution which is what the game decided I should run at on an LCD 19something x1050i think which is what I have.
I have no problems, there aren't any bugs I care about so far, and frankly I think there's almost too much eye candy for me. As with all games it takes me a little while to adjust to the controls and get to the vibe - like every video game, right?
Once I get a handle on the interface I hope and guess I'll pour an embarrassing number of hours in to it over the next few years. I really enjoyed Oblivion, Fallout 3 and Fallout NV, so I'm guessing this new engine will carry it's weight.

Yup. What happened was prior to flat screens the monitor industry and the tv industry wre completely seperate due to the high dot pitch used on computers. Today many computer monitor manufacturers have jumped ship and now make tvs (see vizio, acer, ect...) sure they still, technically sell computer monitors but all they do is take the exact same models they are selling as tvs, remove the tuner and sell it as a computer monitor because it already has hdmi and rgb inputs. It's also virtually impossible to get a 4:3 monitor either, which is really annoying for arcade cabinets.

Sweet. Be sure to tell us what you think of it after you play a bit. I've been out of the console loop for a while so if I want this game I've either got to get a ps3/360 or a better computer and go from there. So, it'll be expensive whichever road is taken. I'm leaning toward the PS3 sign though. :dunno
Accumulated some 5 hours of game play this weekend. Not really sure where the time went! Crap just thinking about that makes me think about how many little sidequests I need to go get done.
Yep, this is definitely going to be a game to 'spend the winter' with.

Sweet! Have you run into any wonky business like this yet?

So far the only weirdness I've seen has been a single instance of an axe floating mid-air while walking along a path. I walked up to it, clipped through it, turned around and it was gone.
-
I want to get this, but Im in such hardcore game debt I dont think Ill have the time. I rented MW3 and need to beat that in a week, then I need to beat Uncharted 2 because I need to get Uncharted 3 for Christmas, and I still havent even finished Dragon Age yet. :-[
Oh, and I havent even played Batman AC yet either. I just dont think I can get Skyrim just yet, if its as good as everyone says it is, all the other games will fall to the wayside.
---fudgesicle---! Zelda comes out on the 20th too. Ugh. Anyone quit their job and break up with their girlfriend to play games all the time?! I wonder how long my savings would last... :lol
-
I've been sucked in. Except for random stalls and things temporarily disappearing I haven't seen anything odd. Actually less buggy than I thought it would be, and light years ahead of the crappy Dead Island experience (the bugs, not the game itself). Here I am on my horse, which wears invisibility armor every now and then.

I haven't had any excitement at all for Skyrim. I got Oblivion years ago when it was all the rage. Put in a good four-six hours on it and just found myself incredibly bored. I just never had any desire to fire it up again. I doubt I even have the savegame anymore.
-
I kind of had the same problem with Oblivion. I got it when it came with a double pack with bioshock, and after beating bioshock I tried to fire it up and I just couldnt get into it. I did have a crappy console TV hooked up to the 360, so reading the text was really frustrating. That could have been it, but now that I have a better TV I have no desire to try and play it. :dunno Keep hearing awesome things about it though. My PC is too weak to run it so I didnt even bother with it.
-
Some 30 hours into it now, not really exploring any of the side quests, and playing with 'god mode' toggled. Even still, I've enjoyed the story quite a bit. Reading the in-game books outside of the game in an ebook reader has also deepened my appreciation for the story and how it relates to the history of the entire region.

Anyone else finish this and not even know it? I did, apparently. I don't know if it was my build or what, but I didn't even know I finished the main quest. I was just going about my business, same old, same old.
Still, a great game, well worth the $$. Gotta do some modding now that the creation kit is released. Looking to add cooking and food as significant objects.
-

I was pretty disappointed that the ending wasn't very climactic. Waiting for the DLCs now...

Pastries? ;)

Still sitting on the shelf. Tried playing it but life got in the way.
The game is perfect for picking up and down whenever you want to, unlike Battlefield 3 or other online centric games where you have to play it to stand a chance of winning.
I have other games like this - such as Alan Wake - so when my internet goes off next week I shall have time to play some of these games. ;D

I wouldn't have known which quest was the "main" story if I hadn't read about it.
I finished the dragon and civil war quests a couple of weeks ago and haven't had any interest in going back to it.

I guess that goes with the territory for a game that isn't designed to be 'finished'.
I enjoyed every moment that I played it (with the exception of a crash that set me back 30 minutes). I imagine I can still go 'do stuff' for quite some time.

I've got 200 hours in the game. I've done a two handed fighter, one handed fighter, and a mage. I might try an archer next after the mage is finished. I like the fatalities for the one handed fighter.
-
I got it for the PS3 last week... Been a while since Ive played role playing games and im amazed at how i start playing and BAM 3-4 hours pass... That and trying to juggle play time and family time is beyotch ...Thank god for coffee...

I will probably spend winter 2012-2013 with Skyrim once it hits $20 or so.
-
Skyrim was pretty excellent. For those who are pc gamers, Steam had a deal a few weeks ago that bundled it and all of the elder scroll games for just 40 bucks. Always, always, always keep an eye on steam.
Also, in case you missed it... the most epic fus ro dah!

Yep, I am just now playing Fallout: NV, so I am sure I will do the same.

My wife got me this (PC Version) game for Christmas, she told me afterwards that when she rang our local game shop they just laughed at her when she asked
if she could "come down and pick up a special edition copy" i.e. they were all pre-ordered up months ago. Not to be deterred she used the interweb and got me one in from the US.
The box was large, I'd told her I wouldn't mind a new cordless drill for Xmas, that's what I thought I was unwrapping after she gave it to me :lol .
Haven't had the time to play it until recently when I was ill in bed. It's getting me in now, I gotta say it's a lot of fun.
That's a 46" TV in behind the dragon that came out of the box. The image looks a bit washed out on the TV because of the light source color on El Dragon.

Here's the mods I'm running with it, nothing like the massive list I had for Oblivion but they do make a significant difference to the look and feel of the game.

Have you tried the texture pack?

Have you tried the texture pack?
I assume you mean the Skyrim HD - 2K Textures by NebuLa which are in the list I posted? There are a few other texture packs out there too. NebuLa's stuff is pretty good and still a WIP, greater detail in just about every game texture is a nice step up from vanilla. I noticed a bit of lag on my PC after adding them but even this was greatly improved after Bethesda's latest 1.4x update, framerate is now quite playable on my PC (I5 CPU, Dual Radeon 5770 GPUs, 64 bit Win 7 OS, 8 Gb ram) running medium to high game settings at 1920 x 1080.
