Title: Houston Area Arcade Group expo
Post by: ahofle on November 09, 2011, 01:56:27 pm
Anyone else going to this?  It's this Friday and Saturday.  The couple of times I've been they've had a pretty impressive collection of vids and pins.

I'm debating on going.  Depends on if I can talk the wife into it.  A friend of mine is going and taking a mini-digital pin.  Stop by and check out his mini converted Zizzle Pirates of the Caribbean into a HyperPin digital pin.

The $20 entry fee caused three of my Houston friends to flake out of going to it, though...

Seriously? Twenty dollars a year, and they're complaining? They even live there.

Couldn't find you or your Konkey Dong t-shirt.  I did get a great vid of my 4-year old high fivin' the stormtroopers :)

I played an Intellivision game I had never heard of - Mind Strike - with a really friendly guy and his wife.

Disappointed the cocktail Warlords was glitchy, but the Atari VCS Medieval Mayhem homebrew satisfied that itch.

Got told I couldn't leave my autographed Konkey Dong cards out on the tables.

AHWWWW. DUDE.

Awesome that it was so popular. Poo on yoo friends.

There doesn't seem to be any venting in the snow trooper helmet, good god.

I had a great time!!  I dragged my friend D with me and now he can't wait to next year.
They had a fairly large collection of pins and some rare vids.

I was pretty disappointed at the swap meet.  There wasn't enough to chose from; it was mostly parts not and only a handful of full games to pick from.

Thankfully I did buy at 1975 Hokus Pokus pin and Robocop vid; for only $175  ;D

The pin needs a lot of cleaning, painting and a little bit of tweaking but should work.

Robocop is working, but needs to be cleaned, repainted, buttons replaced, and new stickers.

I will start a new project thread titled Robocop Alive, soon.

See you guys next year.  :afro:

Yeah, during the day the music was tolerable.  But later on...damn it man!

I too was disappointed that the Warlords cocktail was pretty much unplayable on Saturday and I never even saw the Q'bert's Qubes machine turned on, at any point.  But I did enjoy some Sega Star Trek and an upright Discs of Tron.  Nice to see an old Star Fire cockpit cab, too.  As mentioned above, the swap meet was pretty much nothing but a few spare parts here and there, pretty much useless for the most part.  But, I did enjoy that ginormous coin-op gun game from the early 70's though...what a beast!  Classic home consoles were an interesting idea, but damn, if you're gonna bring those, bring a damn multi cart or something...they had like hardly any games for some of those systems.  Still, overall, a really, really nice selection of vids and a not too shabby selection of pins.  Just need to cut the power to the music and the announcer and you've got a winner.   ;)
