I'm guessing it would be harder to do simply for the fact that you want a 4 player controls to be a bit more offest from the screen, but I am wondering if there are any good examples of a slim 4 player cab. I want to see how well it works, if at all.

Use Tazmame's plans for the slim cabinet and make it a little bigger. Shoot for a 36-42in LCD/LED and scale everything according. There will be plenty of room with that design.

 good call with the tazmame design. Thanks. I didn't think about that, and it is a cool cab. Linky. (http://tazmame.wordpress.com)
I am actually trying to propose a few different designs to a friend I am bringing into the hobby, and am looking for any other suggestions. Anyone think a Knievel style design could be made to work?

Nope. A 2p cp is pretty beefy. A 4p will look way off, unless you go widescreen, but then you are stuck with a ---smurfy--- monitor with bad viewing angles

Ground Kontrol managed to make a "slim" 6 player X-Men Cabinet. The control panel still sticks out, but the cab is about cut in half from it's original size.

That's kinda what I was thinking... Player 3 and 4 would just be looking at the back wall.

Excellent suggestion! Thanks. I used to love playing that cabinet, although it still looks huge as a slim version. :lol It might be a good frame for making designing a 4 player slim cab. I found a sketchup model of it here from Gozer:

I think I will check out the dimensions after I can open it in sketchup tonight.

My build:

No screen, plugs into a TV via HDMI or S-Video. It stores easily since it doesn't take up much space, it's on locking wheels to move it. I just wheel it out and plug it in to to TV mounted on my wall when I want to play. It's also portable enough to bring to a friend's house.

It's easily possible as long as you maintain the centre of gravity and keep the weight acceptable enough to withstand 4 players hammering at it. Here's a selection of our 'Slimline King 4P' builds to demonstrate:
