Title: Sony Trinitron WEGA 27" HDTV. Model number: KV-27HS420
Post by: Turambar on November 03, 2011, 10:56:36 pm
This tv is available for purchase on Craigslist, and I am seriously thinking about using it for my arcade monitor.  I would be going dvi-hdmi with this tv and using Soft-15khz.  What does the community think about using this for the monitor for an arcade cabinet?

just for future reference, many TV's when displaying through HDMI or DVI connections, will only display a few frequencies as defined by the digital video specifications. it is not a multi-frequency capable interface.

IE:

1080I (1980x1020)

720P (1280x720)

480I 480P (640x480)

running any other frequency (including those offered my soft15k) will result in a no signal or out of range type message being displayed.

A lot of CRT HDTVs are actually fixed mode monitors.  They ONLY display 1080i (or sometimes 720p) and will upscale anything lower than that.  I don't know about this particular model, but it's something to keep in mind.
