Hi,
I was just curious does some of you tried to play with Mame with others users on the Net? (Kaillera Mame)
thanks
I will like to play with Metal Slug with another person.
thanks

Hmmm, would be cool. The people who do play regularly play fighters. So I got turned off of kaillera because of that.

I've been meaning to post about this subject. The Kaillera so neat! I always run into problems when I try to use it, but when it works, it really works.

What's up with that? I can't believe that's all anyone plays - the newer the better. I try to start up a a game of Karate Champ and I get ignored. It's even hard to get a game of original Steet Fighter 2 going.
I think it might have been lilwolf who mention that this message board should host a server so that we can play our games on it. (Of course it would just get taken over by the fighter-players, but it would worth a shot).
A lot of people used to play Metal Slug games on there. Now it's just "kof200x" and SFa3. Sucks! The software is so cool and it's wasted on playing fighters exclusively. A byoac-related kaillera server would be cool if we could find a quick game of 2 player marble madness to play with a fellow champion or some track and field.
The arcade cabinet is ready - it's connected to the cable modem... Now where are the games?
-
I haven't ever even heard of this, but from the sounds of it...what? could I play Mario Bros with someone who WON'T hit the POW button 3 time in a row right at the begining? or Someone who could actually give me some competition? or (Best yet!) someone my son can play TMNT against so I don't have to do it!? ;)
-
I am going to say it right now.
vs. Atari RBI Baseball!
I couldn't find anyone wanting to play through Kaillera. As SirPoonga stated it is mostly fighting games.
Ummm... And yes that is an offical challenge to anyone!
-
Hmmm we could use the chat room to decide to meet in some kaillera server and play a game

for some reason every time i log in there, i get a blank screen in the middle, y'know, where chat should be... i left it on for a few hours and got no output. weird.

You might want to try installing or updating the java plugin for your web browser and/or upgrading to a newer version of your web browser.

I used to play all the time.
I even won 2 online tournies(both street fighter).
Its only fun when you play someone around your area :P.
-
I find the opposite to be true. People attempt to play fighters on it, but the lag is pretty bad and there are syncing issues. Killeria is best suited for games were the input timing isn't so critical, ie tmnt or something. I stopped using it a long time ago because it's a mame32 only thing. We looked into making a command-line version for peter's sake (3darcade chat) but nothing ever became of it. :(
-
I have a question about Killeria....
I have 2 computers... and a home network... (which is nothing more than a router...)
can I use Killeria and play Cyberball against each other ??
:o :o
right now.... you can ONLY play together... but not against....
-
Yeah... having the mame32 only, it means that I have to pull out the mouse / keyboard to get it working on the cab... Not a huge deal... but I haven't had much luck.
I would install it again in a second if there was a BYOAC hosted server though (hint hint...saint... even possible)
Gauntlet would be sweet also!
Tons of games... But don't count out fighters.. They are fun (even with a little lag sometimes)... But not the same as having someone next too you... someone you can gloat to when you get the super-ultra-combo
and a command line version of kaillera would be down right SWEET!

Yeah its possible. However no practical experience.
I have 3 computers and I could try and post result.
I am on router as well.

thank you... snaaake.... ;) ;)
plz let me know....

Something to note regarding my experince with it. If you are inside a hardware firewall you can play with all the people in it, or all the people on the net, but not both at the same time. Why I dunno, it seems odd to me.
-
if you download the win kaillera server and run it on one of your home computers, yes, you'll be able to play game together.
it doesn't perform miracles like linking virtual Outrunners machines like they are in the arcades to race eachother.
for those who dont have broadband, the performance is also quite acceptable if you set up one of the PCs as a dail up host, and have your friends dail your PC effectively creating your own little VPN. But I guess you limited to people in your area with this method, as you wouldn't want to pay anything more than fixed local call costs playing this way.
-
i have tried space duel, bubble bobble and bomb jack with people before. They played pretty well actually, also damn fun to play neo geo golf against others as well. Bowling works awesome because lag isnt much of an issue waiting for the frame to change. YMMV, but I enjoyed it. Havent odne it in a while. Has their code improved any ???

I actually I was wrong.
I couldnt play on same connection/router.
I thought it was gonna work...
no idea..what the heck ???

What is Kaillera like playing something like 2 player pacman, will this avoid the lag problems people talk about?

anyone around you area should be fine.
I get like 25-30 ms ping on my local servers.
Used to play...not anymore(busy).
Beat em up and shooters work great online even with the lag. :)

Could this possibly be because almost NO ONE has the correct controls to play Karate Champ? 4-way joyx2 is only available if you build your own arcade controls, and I have been hanging around here a long tiem and have never seen a dual 4-way panel.

Oh yeah... I never thought of that. You can't play Karate Champ with a gamepad.
-
While not entirely authentic, with a PSX USB converter, you've sort of got a two sided D-PAD config as the PSX XO^[] buttons are basically in a U-D-L-R. formation.
-
karate champ runs pretty good with 2 8ways... when you do the up-notleft-notright, left-notup-notdown... trick
-
anyone up for some gauntlet? let me know. too many youngsters playing the fighters...
-
Anyone know the kind of load the server takes?
I will consider trying to install it on my linux firewall... but its a pretty slow machine (300mhz... but I can OC it to 450... just don't because there hasn't been a use).
but its more then enough for a firewall on the network. So I'm pretty sure it could handle the load. Depends on how much cpu time it needs... or if it's just shuttling around network packets.
-
Now this was VERY early on in it's development, but we tried it at the university once and it seriously got hammered with only 4 of us playing in a single session. (p2 500mhz with approx 256 megs of ram) It handled the load fine, but it slowed this machine down to the paoint to where the desktop was useless. Dedicated it might not be so bad, and linux would definately help out. But if you are thinking of setting up a byoac server I doubt it could handle that kind of traffic.
-
Well, the traffic is the traffic... That I can't change the connection I have (cable modem). But I'm pretty sure that the 450mhz linux box would be able to handle all that a cable modem could.
I have been considering upgrading that computer... but there hasn't been a reason (it handles all the firewall stuff just fine)...
But I might try to install it and see if we can get a few games running.

I've already been told that Kaliera is slow as hell! Can you clear that doubt for me?
I would be glad to play brawl games and some others with experienced people! ;D
