I want to upgrade my mame version from .138u3 to the newest version but i dont want to have to reconfigure all the buttons for each game and i dont want to lose my high scores on the games i have. is there any way to upgrade and keep these settings? thanks

Did you make a ctrlr file? You can just copy that over. If you have not, look it up on the wiki

What about the cfg files too

Just thinking about my post up above......
what does NVram stand for?
NON-VOLITILE RANDOM ACCESS MEMORY?
meaning that it doesnt get erased when power is cut to it?????( Ie. CMOS BATTERY comes into play then)
is that correct?
