Doing this as a poll on my site since I'm wondering what the percentages are on the big reasons (space, spouse, $$$, etc). Please click your reasons on my blog/poll at...
http://mamezach.blogspot.com/ (http://mamezach.blogspot.com/)
Also, if you wish, describe the details here on the thread. The poll is good because of the numbers it draws to collect the data. My last poll (consoles you owned) got a smattering of anecdotal answers on the thread, but over 220 answers to the poll on the blog. Starting to collect a nice amount of interesting data.
Also have added a new Arcade game wars....Galaga won the last one over Tempest, T&F and Centipede.

BTW. I love the game of the day posts. I added a couple of those gems into my MAME cabinet.

Pretty much just money.
As a single guy in his 20s without a girlfriend I have plenty of time and space to own more arcade related stuff.
On the other hand I'm unemployed or working low hours most of the time so I really have to stretch my budget. In years past I went through some hard times because when I was flush with cash I ended up spending it on stuff that wasn't a necessity and regretted it later. Now, I'm extremely tight with my cash and pretty much won't buy anything arcade or electronics related related unless it's dirt cheap. Like less than $5 cheap. You'd be surprised what you can get if you wait around and know the right places though.

Simple, it's a space issue. My house is small, so I don't even have my own arcade system of any kind at home. Crazy when you consider my job! I am building a collection of retro systems and stuff but they will only be displayed at work, which luckily for me is where I get to play games too!
I think the space issue is a common one, particularly with those of us with a missus or who generally have smaller homes (ie. Inner city Brits), but at least Turnarcades' compact designs are trying to get round that!

T I M E
I have space, money, but TIME is what I lack. I guess this could be under Spouse category, but she's not the issue, all the stuff on my list to do is the issue. Some is wife, some is family, some is house, some is yard, some is work, some is extended family...
Need more TIME! Gimme.
Also, great site, I enjoy it.

LOL,
Just got an e-mail from my gym: We Miss YOU!
WTF, somebody give me some more hours!! :P

money, more specifically I have other things Id rather own over more cabs. Eventually I hope to own another Neo Geo cab, and maybe a sit down racer but I have a basement and garage to finish before I think about that stuff.

Space/Money
If I had my way I'd live in a massive loft with stripper poles & 100 pinball machines.
Instead I live in the burbs with 4-5 machines in a basement...

Space and time. Though, If I were honest with myself, I'd really only be interested in building a driving cab (and maybe a video pinball) in addition to my buffet project. The buffet can play anything I want, plus windows games, plus Frets on Fire, Visual pinball, future pin, stepmania (a DDR clone), etc, plus (eventually) gun games.
And it completely disappears when I'm not playing.
A pin would be great, but they're big, and I haven't figured out any way to possibly conceal one as something else. Same with a driving cab, only it'd be even bigger.

I don't have much more space, time, or money for games either. Honestly, though, I'm at my limit as to how many games I feel like maintaining. You get to a certain point where the workload just isn't worth the effort anymore.

Same as Jim.

Interest.
I have 3 arcade games and they play everything I want to play. I don't need anything else.

Mine is organization.
I do have a lot of games, maybe too many games. Too many consoles, yet I have yet to stop myself going on eBay buying more consoles. The software location is very hard. It would be great if we could every get console out there on one machine. I have it on one Monitor/Projector, but it is a nightmare when it comes to cabling. All the CDs in folders, but really how many games can one play?
Space is an issue too, but that is where our hobby shines. I have 20" to spare but I cannot get 8+ consoles in such a small area, so one has to improvise.
Maybe Turnarcades can build a full height slim cab that is 14 inches wide.....

+1 except I think my wife might balk at the stripper poles.

Just remind her that pole dancing is an excellent work out!

Make sure you screw them in good (the poles, not... oh hell)...

Compact we can do, but I'd send a cabinet that slim to the doctor for anorexia.

Space here. All the time and money in the world for this hobby. :P
Enough money to make more space?
Interest.

Ditto on this. I have three rigs now - two in cabinets. I only need the one not in a cabinet, and the recent cab I built.
-
Space- but once my college-age kids move out, that won't be an issue!
I have a 2 player horizontal MAME and a 4-way vertical MAME. I'd like a gun cab and sit-down flight simulator.
-
because i want to get rid of what I already have!
:)
too many video game systems, one mame cabe is enough for me
