I just found a 26 inch Samsung CRT HDTV with S-Video and Component inputs. You can save settings in the memory and it has an auto timer for turning on and off. My main concern is that it is going to be very heavy. I just looked it up and I saw a source saying it is 104 lbs.
-Is there anything special I need to do in order to make sure that the cabinet I build will support that weight?
-Also, to hook up a computer to the component jacks do you use a DVI to component adapter?

I would be careful with the DVI to component...I tried to do this in the past without researching it thoroughly and it didn't work. I believe most DVI to component cables are looking for an analog signal - which is either DVI-I or DVI-A. So if your computer is outputting just DVI-D (digital), it won't work. You'll actually need a DVI to Component translator, which is a box and not just an adapter or cable. You should probably do some more digging as I abandoned the idea when my first thought didn't work. I could be completely wrong...but just my two cents.

Thanks, I just saw that the video card I am going to order when I build my PC has a DVI to VGA/D-Sub adapter and I think from that I could use a VGA to Component Cable.

I would try and see how it looks using S-Video before bothering with DVI/VGA/component route. You might be surprised by how good the picture is. Besides, I don't think you'll gain any improvement by going through all those adapters. Makes me think of the difference between connecting a PlayStation to a TV via AV composite cables vs via an RF modulator.

Yeah, I was planning on giving it a shot with S-Video first since a cable will come with the video card anyways. I figured I would take some photos once I get it going since it seems that most of the photos people have put up to show the differences have since expired and are no longer available.

You should check and see if your graphics card has component out on it's own. It should have come with a little adapter that would look similar to this:

If you have this you can just plug straight into your component ports with now worries about conversion. This is just a break out cable to take advantage of the extra pins in your video cards tv out port.
BTW, there's a world of difference between a playstation's composite video output and using an rf adapter.

Hmm, There is something that looks sort of like that. The card says it has HDTV and S-Video Out. Are those HDTV cables just component ports? :embarassed:

Yes. All you have to do is plug those into your card then run a set of component cables from the adapter to your tv. Then power on your computer. It should detect the tv and configue your resolution from there.
After power up you can then go into the control panel for your graphics card and tweak the settings from there for the best look.

Ditto, and it will be a lot better than S-Video. The older cards had component out with the use of an adapter.
