Title: Rit Dye and Plastic Joysticks

I understand that the use of rit dye for dying plastics has been brought up before... it was actually the reason I am willing to try this.

I picked up a green MCA joystick that I am hoping to do as deep a black as possible (should be interesting!!!!) I was curious as to peoples success in the past. Any ideas, Tips or examples to share?

The second thing is does anyone have a smart idea for actually safely removing colour from plastic before the dying process... something to whiten it without affecting its quality to harshly? Any ideas?

I'd suggest Krylon's Fusion paint or SEM dye before Rit dye. The only thing I've ever had Rit sucessfully dye was the inside of a commercial aluminum cooking pot. (My mom's still pissed about that experiment.) ;)

The color pigment is blended into plastic while it's being melted, and I don't think it'd be possible to bleach any color out of it. Since you're looking to go darker, the existing color shouldn't be a problem.
