Hi guys, right I want to wire the PC power from the motherboard to a button on the back of my cab. I don't have any connectors for the MB so whats the best way to go?
-
Cut the wires off the computer's power button and wire them up to an arcade switch (or some other type of momentary switch).
-
I'm guessing I'm speaking to the saame guy from the Hyperspin forum, if not it's spooky LOL I don't have a case which is why I don't know how to wire it. I was expecting to use the connector and wires in that way then realised I didn't have them :(
-
No, I don't post on the Hyperspin forum. You can sacrifice a USB header cable to hook up to the power header... Or salvage parts from a computer someone is throwing away...
-
Wow thats weird the guy on there gave the same answer almost word for word LOL I was thinking of cutting another header up but I don't have anything. I may have a PC speaker somewhere or could buy one as they're cheap, would that work?

If you've got a buck and some change, get this (http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-PC-Computer-Desktop-ATX-Power-Supply-Reset-Switch-Connector-Cable-Cord-/270823107270?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f0e50aac6).

Heh. There's always more than one way to skin a cat, but there also appears to be a preferred method. :D
-
LOL yeah, thanks for the help bud
-
I just used an old power wire connector from a case and wired it up to a recessed button in the back. Anything similar will do. And to power it down for whatever reason, just hold i down like you would on a computer. I i like to use the software in the frontend to shut the comp down.
-
I wired mine into a phone jack/receptical so that when I need to remove the PC from the cabinet i've got an easy disconnect between the button wire (phone plug) and he computer (phone jack).
-
Where does the jack plug into on the motherboard?
-
It does not plug in you need to connect the black MB connectors to the Front Panel power pins and then wire to telco jacks if you want a quick disconnect. Seems a bit complicated for you right now.
-
Thats the thing, I don't have any of the black connectors. I thought I'd have at least an old header somewhere but nothing. I'll see if my local computer shop as anything :)
-
Most computer shops have tons of those double pin black connectors lying around. The hard place to get them from is the big name shops. Support your local computer shop. ;)
-
Maplins sell them so I'm bobbing down there today :)
