well i've EMBRACED the arcade emulation hobby, and i'm pretty savy with the computer... how does one document (best) his build so that other may follow?
there's hosting your own site and building every page -which i can do.
there's blog sites -i know nothing of this.
there's THIS site -but again i know nothing.
what's the easiest/most elegent way of documenting?
i've collected 93% of my parts and i'm ready to build (camera in hand)

Pictures, pictures and pictures. Oh did I remember to mention pictures? How you choose to document it is up to you and what works for you but take lots of pictures as you build it!

The most common way people seem to document here is to simply start a thread over in Project Announcements and then post updates as replies as you go along.
Updating it as you build can also save you headaches when someone notices you're about to make a mistake they made in the past.
As for the pictures, of which you should have many, you can either purchase your own webspace somewhere, use a free service such as Google's PicasaWeb, or you can directly attach them to your post here (click the "Additional Options" line at the bottom of the reply window). By posting them as part of your reply, the file is hosted on the ArcadeControls's server itself, so that 10 years from now if someone looks at your build log the pictures will still be available because the host you chose to use hasn't disappeared.

There's a thread stickied at the top of the Project Announcements forum for hosting pictures.
Then you can insert the pic in your thread using the url.
It's pretty annoying when pics you really want to see are missing from a thread.
I put a lot of stuff on here for my own reference.
It's easier to organize pics and words in a thread than on my computer.
Easy to search for them too! :lol

I vote for hosting the pictures here if you choose to write about the build here. I appreciate the reasoning behind seperating the text and images and other files on different hosts but nothing is more maddening at reading some documentation only to find some reference image or file is forever lost because the OP chose to host it elsewhere.

+1 on pictures, pictures, pictures and more pictures. Host them here so they don't disappear after a few years.

I vote for video and youtube... Time lapse photography is cool too! ;)

Best way or most common? Most common is as follows:
- Start project, post a thread on project announcements.
- Get a cab, or start cutting wood. Order controls.
- Disappear for a month.
- Post an update with some more pictures, make progress.
- Disappear for 3 months.
- Post a brief update, one or two pictures.
- Disappear for 6-12 months.
- Complete cab, post an update saying 'It's done'. At this point, either post a ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- ton of pictures or disappear forever.
...ok...maybe the above was just me. :)
