Title: Calling all 6 in 1 jamma board Mortal Kombat Peopl
Post by: mkfan83 on September 29, 2011, 09:43:53 pm
Hello all I am new to this forum.  My name is Chris.  I just bought my first arcade machine.  Ever since I was little I wanted a mortal kombat arcade machine.  I found this Mk2 game for $500 near me.  Mortal Kombat 2 Arcade (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2JFH4Nsf8eU#ws)  It is not in too bad of shape.  The cabinet has a few chips and scrapes but it is in overall good condition.

I saw some videos on youtube of people that added all the MK games in one cabinet.  Before I knew you could do this I wanted to just buy all the MK cabinets seperately.  I really don't have that much space for that many cabinets and I wouldn't play some as much as the other so it would be better to have them all in one.  I understand what has to be done to get the Jamma 6 in 1 board to have -5v on all the slots and the soldering work that needs to be done to the jamma 6 in 1 board.

Where I am confused is when it comes to the kick harness and the mods that needs to be done to it.  Do I need a kick harness for each game that I install in the Jamma board.  From what I understand, there is one kick harness that works for MK2, MK3, & MkU & Mk4 right?  MK1 needs a seperate kick harness.  So if I was to install, MK1, MK2, MK3, MKU & MK4 I would need 4 kick harnesses like this http://www.jammaboards.com/store/mortal-kombat-killer-instinct-harness/prod_67.html (http://www.jammaboards.com/store/mortal-kombat-killer-instinct-harness/prod_67.html) and one kick harness for MK1 like this http://www.jammaboards.com/store/mk1-kick-harness/prod_82.html (http://www.jammaboards.com/store/mk1-kick-harness/prod_82.html)

That would be all the wires that I would need correct?  Can anyone detail how to wire them all up together to hook up to the buttons?  I see YourMKacardesource has a video showing the wires after they are all hooked up together but he doesn't say how he did it and I cannot find any other sites or videos showing anything about it.

When I install a jamma 6 in 1 is it necessary to add a bigger power source?  Any other changes that I may have to make?  Hopefully someone can come along that can walk me through this.  I am new to all this but willing to learn.  Within the first week of owning my cabinet, I fixed the test switch and service credits buttons as they didn't work which it turned out being that the wires for the buttons were installed into a plug incorrectly so I can do the work it's just I may need some help undertaking this.

Also I am not the best solder.  Anyone that has done this conversion that is willing to do some solder work would be much appreciated.  Of course I would pay you for your work.  Finally, I am in need of mk1, mk3, mk3 ultimate and mk4 pcb's and soundboards and pretty much everything i will need to make the conversion.  If anyone has any extras that are in working order or wiring harness let me know if you are interested in selling them.

Thanks for the help.  I look forward to starting a build thread on this sometime soon.  Also I know Yourmkarcade source normally would do solder wire work for people, but from as I understand it, he is out of the country and will be gone for some time and I would like to get this conversion done sometime soon.

You definitely need the -5 V mod for every position on your 6 in 1 that will have a MK board.   You are right the kick harness info is not detailed but it shows a regular splitter being used in a 3 in 1 conversion for the kick harnesses so it looks like you can common all your switches on your kick harness to the control panel without diodes.  The diodes are required for the service switch mod to stop feed back.

A larger power source would be an advantage and some of the jamma extension cables seem to be a bit short of wire so if you get too much of a voltage drop larger diameter power feeds on the extension cables may help.

Yes, I am out of the country and will only be back for 2 week intervals every 3 months. My YouTube channel should have all the info you need to get going.

I have vids for how to do the -5vdc mod, the multi-LK harness mods, and more. Any specific questions, please feel free to ask!
