Title: Super street fighter IV arcade, keyboard required?
Post by: ivwshane on September 28, 2011, 01:52:42 am
I guess I'm late to the party because I didn't even know this version came out:O

Ive got it installed and running just fine with mala except for one problem. When starting the game I get to the press "start" screen and none of my buttons register, the only way for me to continue to the next screen is to hit "enter" on my keyboard, once I'm in my controller works like it should.

Anyone aware of any fix for this or a work around?

Relevant info below:

Latest updates
Two U360 with 8 buttons attached
All buttons mapped except for the select/select button
I have a trackball and two buttons available on the CP to act as a mouse

I would use the program joy2key. You will be able to map your start button to enter, and you wont need a keyboard. It's a very handy program.

When you do this, is it only set for that game or will it change for every other emulator/games?

J2K is the same thing as Xpadder.  No way to set it just for that game.  Too bad :(

EDIT: Is there a way to run something like Xpadder on the start of the game then turn off when game is done? (using maximus arcade)

I don't know about maximus because I use mala but I don't see any reason why you couldn't do what you want because I've done it in the past with mala. I had to make a little batch script to do it though, so if maximus supports that then you should be good to go.

I'm really hoping that capcom comes out with a fix for this because using a joy pad emulator will really complicate things for me:(

Silly question, as I'm sure you've already checked, but:

I don't have access to the game right now.  However, going by memory, I seem to recall the in-game controller mapping feature allows you to map a "start" or "select" button.

Doesn't the button you map there allow you to get past that screen?

I figured out a way to "bind" 2 keys to 1 in Xpadder:
http://xpadder.com/forum4/viewtopic.php?f=86&t=2761 (http://xpadder.com/forum4/viewtopic.php?f=86&t=2761)

so i can go: left stick + player 1 as ESC and right player stick + player 1 as ENTER

You would think but for me at least that doesn't seem to be the case:|

I have a u360 with the wiring harness and I can map the buttons just fine in the settings but if I start the game from scratch the controller doesn't seem to be initialized and I can't get past the start screen unless I hit enter on the keyboard.

If someone could verify that this happens on their setup I'm really appreciate it.

If all else fails, you could run the game through an ahk script that will do the key press for you and then exit.  It's not ideal, but would be effective in the absence of alternatives.

Look at my above post :)  It happens with every setup :(  SSF4 doesnt load/save anything till you hit ESC to get out of "games for windows" then hit ENTER.
