Title: Simple MALA start question....
Post by: muchuckwagon on September 26, 2011, 08:44:48 am
I'm playing with MALA and learned a lot but one thing seems to elude me....I make my selection from the MALA menu and then it requires me to hit start again for play the game.

This seems unnecessary, I would think once I select and launch a game from MALA it should not require the extra step to hit start before it goes into the ROM check.  Can I get a game to launch directly by simply selecting it in MALA?

You should only need to hit start once. When I select a game on my list using the arrows, I hit the start key default keyboard key '1'. The ROM starts as normal (MAME). There is however the default annoying MAME splash screen that tells you to hit the select key, or 'left' and 'right' directional to start, and sometimes this has 1-3 splash screens depending on the ROM.

These splash screens have nothing to do with mala however. So I'm assuming your not talking about those.

Perhaps that splash screen is hidden and Mame is waiting for me to take one of the actions you noted above and I just don't see it.  Can I disable that "nap screen" requirement?  I would like to hit select in Mala and have the ROM "test patterns" start and go directly into the game and without the extra step.

I would have thought so, however I've never found such a setting in Mame, perhaps someone else knows of one.
