Hey
I have a PS3.. (can't be hacked until I buy Eflasher thing) and a 360 (never use) I have lots of retro consoles too.
I was thinking of hacking the 360, however I see various methods. I am total newbie and wondered what can be done to hack it. What can it do once it is hacked?
Is it worth hacking the ps3?
thanks
Jim

No. Just buy your games.
Help the gaming industry develop through financial gain and recognition.
Hacking new consoles involves playing cat and mouse with Microsoft/Sony or you end up bricking it.
Want to mod something for your retro related roms?
Snag yourself an original Xbox.

I have to disagree.
Hacking a PS3 to play retro roms is a good idea plus it has more horsepower to emulate them giving you filters and upscaling to 1080p via HDMI. the real kicker is most of the processing power of the ps3 has not been harnessed by the homebrew/ indie devs yet so a lot more useful features are going to eventually become available just look at multiman and showtime have accomplished for example. Can an original hacked XBOX do that for you? development on the hacked xbox is futile it's been tapped and the 700mhz processor does not help its case

I love my jtagged xbox 360, Install free style dash and launch all games and xbox live games from one menu. Pretty nice.
The hacked ps3 seemed underwhelming to me, but you don't need a usb flasher, it's as simple as putting the firmware on your usb and updating. I think you need to update to a particular official firmware first (3.55 i think). but you can't play newer games just yet me thinks
-
nope no newer games above firmware 3.55 but i'm sure that will change with time. what i'm waiting on is ISO playable PS1 games without cobra usb
-
If you want to play ps1 games, why not just get a modded ps1?
-
Hey
I have a ps1 and think I may just mod it for psx. I have a nes with power pak and a sega with everdrive too. I just wondered it it was worth it to hack my 360 or ps3. I did not realize that the PS3 upgraded the retro games? Usually retro games on new consoles look like poop.. pixels etc.... Do you have any info on that? Can a Ps3 play ps1 backups?
Unfortunently my ps3 has firmware. 3.70 :(
-
The cobra usb allows ps1 backups to be played, but you'll have to wait until they find a work around for your firmware. I think people got scared by the whole gehot thing.
If you can jtag your 360, i'd say go for it. Once you set it up it works great. It's nice to have all your games launch from one menu.
I've just found out about the everdrive, do you lose anything in terms of game quality when using that? I imagine it works pretty good, I do like having individual carts.. but that's just me.
-
HEy
Thanks. I have 2 kids now and hardly have time to play now.. so I think I will not hack it now... not the ps3 anyways... I may consider the 360....
With the everdrive, they are multi cart that you load all the roms into a card..... they play as original.
In regards to the ps3 scene, I thought the E3 loader thing was coming out that let you have dual firmwares.. so you could have one hacked and one original. The only thing that I have an interest in is 1080p retro games..
thanks

If you have plugged your 360 into the internet at any time during the last 4 years or so, it won't be jtaggable.
Jtags are cool for the convenience of storing all your games on the drive and not having to swap discs. But you lose Xbox live.

Dude if you need special hardware and geek speak to perform a hack that works 25% of a time and takes minutes to boot when it does work, it might as well not work

there are chips that boot from 5sec to a minute at most. this will work just fine. and the work is about the same as jtagging. just need a hacked dashboard for the new timing glitch.
and yeah if you care about xbox live then just get a legit console.
-
Does this mean the 360 is open for homebrew goodness? The limited number of jtagable counsels seemed to keep that scene less mature than it could be.
-
^ pretty much yeah
until NEW consoles made from now are somehow "fixed" or whatever lol..
-
squirt :laugh2: is supposed to be the best one

Hey
wow 25% is low.... eheh I like the slogan LETS SQUIRT! ehhe
-
SNAAKE I remember you doing some JTAGs back in the day. Any chance you will be in on this Squirt mod or possibly doing some more jtag consoles?
-
yeah I will when there is a hacked dashboard lol.. :burgerking:
right now the hack is useless. I still jtag as long as people send me jtaggables.
-
Hey
How do I know if my xbox is jtaggable?
Thanks

What is the latest news on making a hacked dash?
-
Posting on an 8 month old topic probably isn't the best way to make my first post however it's on topic at the very least.
I'm thinking about making a cabinet with the potential to play newer fighters like SF4, MvC3, Tekken and the like as well as running emulators on it. Would a hacked 360 do the job? (I am planning on paying for the games legit) Or is there a better solution?
-
360 is what you want. I have one in my cabinet and thats all I use  you better off using mame because finalburn kinda sucks. it works fine for all games but you still cant program roundhouse to right trigger which is the default for all arcade stick. so if you plan on using finalburn, make sure to wire player2 roundhouse/button6 to either left shoulder or left trigger.
I have a ps3 too but thats only for movies and some online games like MGO which will be closing june12 :( that will be an ULTRA sad day for me because metal gear online is one of the very few games I truly dedicated my time(AND SOUL) to!
-
So the Xbox isn't like PS3 and Wii where some games will only function on a certain version of the firmware? I own the PS3 and Wii myself, never really given Xbox too much of a thought until now.
-
well yeah some games(mainly xbox live arcade games) would force you to update the jtag dashboard. which is pretty easy after the initial work(what I do) and you have the cpu key and original nand. usually you can just delete the update folder from any game and they'd still work. that's assuming you are launching the game from a hard drive.
