Title: painted cp panel help
Post by: dithrin on September 21, 2011, 01:18:17 pm
(http://screensaver.qweas.com/3d/screen/mechanical_clock_3d_11.jpg)

the above picture is the base for my mala layout, i am not at home so i dont have an actual layout picture.  I am trying to mimic the gears on my CP.

My plan was to paint the base black color all over, then make a "gear" stencil(s), and use a sponge to paint the gears on,  the texture of the sponge i was hoping would give a warn/old time look.  Colors i was thinking of doing would be gold base with like a bronze top coat on the gears to add to the depth/texture.

I am looking for other ideas on how i could do this or any suggestions to make it look better.  I am trying to keep cost down so i figured painting would be the cheapest way to go, but i am open to suggestions if the price is the same or even cheaper.

You can get the CP overlay printed by GameOnGraphix for about $50 shipped. They print on adhesive backed material that is nice and stiff and then cover that with Polycarbinate laminate. I have had all the art for my cab printed by them and I am very happy with the results. They have lots of satisfied customers. My experience was identical to this one:

Given that you have such a complex and rich image there, I would use photoshop (or whatever) to create a really stunning CP overlay and then have it printed.
