Title: 49 way joystick interface
Post by: telengard on September 17, 2011, 05:20:42 pm
All the ones that used to be available seem to not be anymore.  Are there any new options that I might not know about?
I have my Sinistar joystick all wired up and ready to go!

Ones I know about are these:

http://dave.bit2000.com (http://dave.bit2000.com)       (may be available again in the future)
gp-wiz49                               (out of stock and no response to emails about it)

I contacted Andy @ ultimarc and he has nothing that would fit the bill either.

Any ideas or suggestions?

what type of joystick is the sinister one? would it work for other games like forgotten worlds or similar where you twist your gun around while moving and shooting?  Whats the interface? usb?

This is an optical joystick.  It needs an interface to connect to a PC, which is what I'm looking for.  I don't think it would work well for Forgotten Worlds.  This is more like a more "sensitive" 8 way joystick with some build in resistance (via the rubber spider).   A spinner may work better for Forgotten Worlds.

Here's a link to a thread in B/S/T with one that was available just a few days ago:

Anyone know if GGG has plans to manufacture more of these? Or any other alternatives? I've got 4 49-way sticks and no way to interface them to MAME.

I've emailed a few times about it and haven't heard back.  I managed to get one through a trade on this site.  Works quite well, just need to tighten up the actual joystick somehow, it feels pretty sloppy.  The centering spider is pretty new too.

The other interface (can't remember the name) may be available again after the creator is finished with a cross country move.

I have a design laying around for one, but I shelved it due to lack of interest and margin.  I could potentially make some on an as-needed basis, but it wouldn't be cheap at all.

I hope Groovy Game Gear gets these back in stock because I need several too.

I just noticed on GGG's website down in the description area of their 49 way interface is says PLEASE NOTE! A NEWER VERSION OF THIS PRODUCT WITH EXTRA FEATURES WILL EVENTUALLY BE MADE AVAILABLE. THERE WILL BE NO UPGRADE PATH AND THERE IS CURRENTLY NO RELEASE DATE (please don't ask.) HOWEVER, THIS PRODUCT IS STILL AN EXCELLENT CHOICE FOR CONTROLLING 49-WAY JOYSTICKS IN ITS CURRENT FORM.

Maybe that is why he hasn't replied.  Anyway, I know this product has not been available for awhile.  Guess you just gotta be patient...
