Title: Lighted start buttons.
Post by: Edgedamage on September 11, 2003, 08:04:04 pm
I am thinking of starting to sell lighted start buttons the price will be two for $15.00USD shipped. They would come pre wired. Let me know what you think.

Make sure you also have 3 / 4 player version also..  (not hard...)

And that they plug into the ipac / mk64 / (does keywiz have led support?)

Then it would be interesting to many!

Sorry but the high output LED's I use would draw too amps from the i-pac therefore killing the chip. What I did was hook them up to the computer power supply that was running the computer in my mame cab. A 350w power supply would have no problem running at least a 100 of them. Also I do have a set of player 3 and 4 buttons. I will have a set ready by sunday and give more pics and it looks like that set is already spoken for.
Dirt was the first to PM me so looks like he gets the first set. Oh I forgot to metion when I make a set for anyone who orders it I will make it custom for the type of power supply you use.

Hm... Maybe a small rellay would allow you to still hook it up via the IPAC (or whatever)...
That way you get the power you need from the PC & the flashing, or what ever, from the IPAC. 8)
Just a thought. (although it may not be worth the extra few dollars to some...)

Oscar has a great little circut to handle the high amp LED's in his "How to" section.

I'm interested, but I've got questions:
Leaf or microswitch (horizontal?)?
How are you applying the decal (I'm concerned about durability)? There was some discussion about this kind of thing in another thread here:

Can we see larger pictures?

I imagine he is using the standard Happ player pushbuttons with LEDs.  That way you don't have to deal with all the issues that you guys are discussing in the other threads.

How well will a piece of opaque plastic light up?

The white buttons light up quite nicely...
Especially when using Super Bright LEDs like he said he's doing.
That pic attached to the first post is of his buttons on his panel.

I'm sure he'd be glad to show more pics if you need them though.

Just look at the pictures.  BTW, they're technically translucent, not truly opaque (steel for example is opaque).  Many people have lit Happ buttons before, this is not difficult.  Superbright LEDs make the job much easier.

Ok here's a shot in the dark of some completed buttons.
Also I will make a "how to in the projects section"

I like the blue buttons, but who are those small people standing in front of them?  ;)
